  1. Funny you mention Best Buy, although they have people there to help you, you don’t get the help you need. I’ve given up going to Best Buy and their Geek Squad is a bigger joke, the days of the Mega stores and supper malls are on their way out not to mention the rift raft they create. RO will be the next Dixie Mall.

  3. In today’s economy just about everybody will jump to make a sale. Realtors and their home office can make or enforce a policy to have buyers come into the office to be pre-qualified and to gather information before showing them any homes. Realtors as well as sellers are taking a risk showing homes to unknown buyers, some can be casing your home for a burglary just meeting an anxious Realtor at the curb.

  4. Suburban Public Transportation is not what it used to be I’m sure. Look at the real value of public transportation when it is used as a commuter route from one type of public transportation to another, now you can leave that car in the garage and really save money on gas and parking if you work in the big city. Derogatory statements about how communities changed over the past twenty years; maybe it was the white flight mentality that created those changes. Public transportation is not the cause of community change politicians are through lucrative Federal and State funding for special projects that may happen years down the road after they redline communities and make property virtually worthless. Gary is an old mill town that went bust when the global steel markets dumped their cheap steel and companies closed their doors as an excuse of high labor and legacy cost. Twenty years and still even now jobs are going to China so migrant farm workers could move into government subsidized housing and have subsidized health care and working in slave labor shops. The housing market was a plan that took twenty years before the bubble busted, hard to believe the banks gave so many unsecured loans to people who couldn’t afford those homes in the first place but who would have thought that the company would close and they would have to work for less?
Public transportation provides jobs for many people from the bus manufacturer, bus drivers, mechanics, management and various other suppliers. Those pennies you pay at the pump go a long way. After the election I wouldn’t be surprise if gas jumps, unfortunately we don’t have an option to alternative transportation so I like you will have to drive and pay the price.

  5. Twenty - six years ago Regan showed the workingmen and women of this country where their jobs were going. The blue print was drawn for two tier wages and union breaking tactics. Think you’re going to find a good paying job today think again. There is no way to compete with over two billion Chinese or workers in Mexico and India. I’ve known people who have worked in major companies who were eventually displaced by temporary help. Today they are working for a lot less, and the products they used to make cost more, go figure. Profit and quantity over quality, I’ve worked for companies who thought they could increase quantity for less and eventually they lost market share because of lack of quality. I like autocratic managers who blame the unions because you can’t meet your quotas and of course it is never your fault. You got book smart and are afraid of the boss when he barks and you don’t know how to work with people. You will more than likely get your wishes with the exception you may be looking for a job too. Without me they won’t need you, I hope I rained on your parde.

  6. Ray gun Zap if you go back twenty-six years, when jobs were leaving the country we needed to create jobs. Make marijuana illegal, okay it was already illegal but now we will use it as one of our war on drugs. Drug test before employing, this will force people to quit smoking marijuana, the drug that is so addicting and family wrecking not to mention a stepping stone to more illicit drug use. Where did the politicians get their facts?
Most drug use is caused by peer pressure not parents, my parents drank and that didn’t make me crave booze. I grew up in taverns as a kid and there was a tavern on every corner and in the middle of the block. The only addicting habit that I have is smoking cigarettes, caseworker can you help me? I smoked marijuana for about sixteen years and because of Regan’s war on drugs I quit just so I could get a job.
Drug testing, random drug testing and all that goes with it created jobs, not to mention more law enforcement, attorneys, prosecutors, judges, jails and someone to watch the non-violent criminals who technically in most cases are only guilty of tax evasion. The only addiction I see is the money pouring into attorneys offices and into the courts generated through fines, why make it legal?

  7. Go to Wall Street where the speculators drive the price of crude, then take the media with news from the Middle East and the price of crude goes higher. The American people have been in this game with the oil companies since the oil embargo in the seventies. Then you have companies leaving the United States because labor is too high. A vicious circle we are in and we can certainly blame D.C. and their counterparts with the E.P.A , don’t let the cow release any gas or the price of beef will go up..

  8. Maybe all the transit agencies should be joined together; Pace Metra and the CTA are all linked together so transportation can work in the best interest of the people. Pace even has stops in Hammond and Gary. I know you sometimes see a bus going down the street with only two people on it, did you happen to follow that bus to see how many people get on and off the bus at certain stops? Funding normally comes from a gas tax not income tax other funding comes from state and federal levels. Then the agency handling the funding is not the best they know nothing about transportation and they may have their own hands in the cookie jar.
