  1. Public safety patrols? What a crock! This was about nothing more than raising revenue. Pay up, Schmuk!

  2. I'm shocked that Valpo has not been drug testing. Where have they been? Aren't they a little late in joining the discredited "war on drugs?" In a place like Munster, where the administration is most interested catching kids doing anything wrong, they've been doing it for years. Of course, this type of testing has absolutely nothing to do with reducing drug use. Indeed, there is no data supporting the notion that it does. It has everything to do with expanding the policing powers of the school so they can further control and punish kids.

All in all its just another brick in the wall

  3. Not sure why you'd take a shot the kids and their teams. What does that have to do with this issue? So you lose credibility for your position which appears to be driven by an anti-Munster bias rather than an informed position on the issue. BTW, that boys BB team was far and away THE BEST in Da Region! And I hear the baseball team is gonna be pretty good too.

  4. That's not the point. The point is people voted yes to support the teachers and smaller class sizes and educational programs -- not pay increases for the administrators. I don't trust the Munster administration one bit and neither should anyone else. Vote No!

  5. According to trial testimony, Vandenburgh is actually the one who approached Philpot to inform him about the availability of the bonus funds to make sure she continued to get the extra $ she'd been getting when she worked in the clerk 's office for years before Philpot became Clerk. She's the one who told Philpot he could pay himself a bonus too! In fact, Philpot told her to make sure it was legal for him to take the money and she told him she would check with the state lawyers about that. She then told him it was okay.

That's the evidence at the trial. Years later when she is now now a politician herself she tells the feds shes shocked, shocked that Philpot took the bonus money. Yeah, right. She's as much to blame as anyone. And this Times story that paints as some sort of do-gooder ignores the evidence at trial -- just as the jury did, which is why the judge reversed the convictions on the counts that cover the time Vadenburgh worked for Philpot.

  6. Another step for the ever growing police state this country has been inexorably marching towards. You must conform! You must obey!

  7. What's Rover's problem with unions? Had it not been for union jobs in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, the entire region would be one huge slum. The unions are what allowed my dad and hundreds of thousands of others to support a family and put me and my brothers thru college. Thank God for unions!

  8. It is an outrage that the state would not pay to rebuild the bridge, especially with the federal funding. I'm in favor of limited government, but two of the things the government must provide are roads and schools. Mitch Daniels cut hundreds of millions for schools so now many communities are asking homeowners to pay more for schools. He sold the toll road so now we have to pay three or four times more to use it. And now the public will have to pay to use Cline. What a terrible governor. And the notion he the guy who gutted public education is now in charge of one of our biggest public universities is nauseating.

  9. The MHS administration grossly overreacted here and came down on dozens of kids like a Gestapo. And for what? The photos in question are NOT child pornography under the law. Child pornography means depiction of "sexual conduct," and none of the photos involved anything like that. Nude breast, even 14 year old breasts, is not a crime.

So No criminal conduct was involved.

Now MHS can discipline and suspend kids for having nude photos of a student. But please let's turn this into something more than a case of boys being boys.

My biggest beef is that most boys simply got an unsolicited text with the photos. And Sopko and his gang are punishing the boys who simply received the photos the same as the boys who sent them and IMO that's not fair. Seems like the boys who sent the photos and started this "Nipplegate" scandal are the most culpable after the stupid girls who took shots of themselves and sent them to boys to begin with.

  10. A bit of a swagger? McNamara was the cockiest, most obnoxious kid many of us baseball dads had ever seen. His comportment had long been unsportsmanlike - anyone who saw his behavior during last year's sectional championship game knows exactly what I mean. So it was hard not to develop a strong dislike for him as well as his coaches who permitted him to behave like he was the biggest c@ck in the henhouse. I guarantee you that type of behavior had something to do with Lebanon throwing the game and it's why a lot of people didnt have much sympathy for no matter hoe despicable Lebanon's behavior.

Jimmy Mac got his comeuppance in last year's regional game and this year it really seems like he's finally learned how to win with class. He's a heck of a talent and I wish him, his many likeable teammates and Coach Sandor all the best.

Good luck LC! Bring the Championship to The Region!
