  2. Mind- I agree that it is stupid to assume that the person is illegal. If we find out later that is the case then add it to the statistics. But our country being founded by illegals?? Yes, our country was founded by immigrants and many of them were crooks and took from the native Americans. But illegals?

  4. No kidding, the last line in the article makes me want to go get the book that the "reporter" was quoting from. My guess is this was more plagiarized than reported. But, today, just as in 1984, The NWI Times is used by journalism professors and high school teachers across Indiana as the best example of the worst written newspaper in the country.

  5. Funny how people play the section 8 card. While there may be a problem with some from section 8, it is more likely that the issues are coming from the youth that have never had any discipline. They grow up feeling they are above the laws. Then they become the loud mouthed people that want everything there way. I recently heard someone on WJOB complaining about Hammond residents that speed on Hawthorne and Northcote. Then I decided to sit and watch a little to see for myself. I found it was more often a resident speeding in their own block and even saw several residents on Hawthorne that drove the wrong way on the one way street. Maybe if ya'll are so concerned about the park, you should take your cell phone and a camera and go hang out at the park yourself. Call the cops while the problems are happening. Take pictures for identification. Once the problem children are exposed and some form of legal action is taken, the park should get back to normal.

  6. Let's not over look this one fact: The man had a gun that was not registered! I don't see any comments about it here but I heard some folks talking about how this is another example of why Indiana should not allow carry permits... but you will notice how the Times just glazed over that with only a mere mention. Let's get unregistered guns off the streets and leave those of us with CC permits and LEGAL guns alone!

  7. To those screaming hypocrisy and those that have said a pastor or priest is a representative of God... Please take a deep breath and think. All who believe in God and read the Bible should agree that no matter or title or position in life, we are all humans first. And to be human is to be flawed or sinful. If anyone here thinks their worship leader is without sin, think again. If you have placed your Pastor on a pedestal then you are in for a major disappointment. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but some day you will see that he or she is just as capable of sin as you and I. And the hypocrisy chants coming from so many... well I hope for your sake you never have to judged by those around you for the actions you may have done or will do.

  8. When this first broke I knew it would get ugly on these boards regardless of the outcome. As a person how has raised two children (1 son, 1 daughter), worked in sales for for around 30 years, and served churches as a deacon and even as a pastor, I would like to say I am always hurt when I see anyone of any age used by someone in a position of authority. I am not a member of the HBC but I am a Christian. I can understand how most of the congregation can appear to just keep on going as if nothing happened. Sad as it may be, some actually will not be affected by this mess. But that said, I think we all need to look at this as a wake-up call at least. Please be aware of what is happening around you and if you see something going on you feel may not be right, SPEAK UP! Over the years I have lost count of how many times I have seen both men and women how have been placed in authority positions that have fallen into a sick situation much like this. Yes, some of those I am thinking about were in a religious leadership roll, but just as many were not even believers in any religion. Some were school teachers or cub scout leaders, and some were managers or business owners. The problem is that when a business owner does something like this the media overlooks it since that wont sell papers. But a teacher, pastor, or politician... well that stuff sells.
Now I do not know the young lady from this story, but I do know a few H-Bap. families and they have daughters, all much older now, but I can recall when those girls were 16 and 17, and I will say they were often mistaken for being 20+. My own daughter recently turned 18 and for the past few years she was thought to be 22-23, one person recently asked if she was still in her 20's or if she was over 30. Before anyone starts yelling at me, I am not making excuses for this guy. I am just pointing out that sometimes, if a person is anywhere from 16-23 it can be hard to tell. So I am sure this former pastor knew exactly how old this girl was and I find it hard to believe that he did not know he was breaking any laws. But think about this, if she was only 14 or 15 months older, most men would look at him as lucky.

  9. Really? Fingers pointing at Mc. Mayor?? I did not vote for him but let's be real here. The "fire" at the Wheel is no different than than the Mc Donalds closing a location only to rebuild it. It is a proven business model with Mc. Donalds and other restaurants that rebuilding or a closure to remodel brings a resurgence of profits. Only thing different here is that just like the fire at Petro's or Jedi's, The Wheel appears to have decided to make some changes and needs some extra money (insurance money) to do it. Indiana changed the smoking law and The Wheel smelled really bad from the years of smoke... so something had to be done. And if you think I'm wrong that's ok. I just find it funny how the fire didn't get out of hand before someone reported it.
