- First of all, the problem in Gary is with the massive amounts of poverty and broken families. Fatherless families as far as the eye can see. This leads to youth that has no proper guidance, and they get into trouble easily. Also, there is no gun that is legal to own that empties all of its rounds with one trigger pull. I am sick of the ignorant media mis-characterizing guns and magazines. Focus on the real problem: criminals.

- Katie, nice editorial. However, you are wrong on a couple of items just like most of the media. Many transactions at gun shows do get a background check, if the seller is an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensed dealer). You are correct that the rest do not require checks. I do believe that they should all require checks. The next involves terminology. Nobody is allowed to purchase a fully automatic weapon, unless they go through an extensive background check, are able to obtain a Class III license, and have to register the weapon. None of the weapons used in any of the mass school shootings were fully automatic. They were all semi-automatic. There are plenty of gun laws on the books already, they just need to be enforced. No need to ban anything, or implement a registration scheme.

- Just because you hate freedom, doesn't mean you can trash the Constitution. The Second Amendment was written after the main Constitution was written. It guarantees an individual the right to bear arms. That was confirmed when James Madison, who wrote the amendment, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights, stated that they were individual rights way back in the day. I find it childish and disgusting that you would even use the Second Amendment and the shooting of 20 kids, in the same conversation.

- Gun control is ineffective on criminals. Gun bans do not work. Research John Lott. He is the leading expert on gun control. We need better mental health. We also need to get rid of "gun-free" zones, as all but one of these mass shootings occured in "gun-free" zones where everybody, except the killer, is conveniently not armed. I am not willing to see any more of my rights violated as a knee-jerk reaction from our elected officials. As Benjamin Franklin once said: "They who would give up liberty for some temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety." The gun grab has got to stop.
