  1. "...and if no one else in my family ever apologizes, at least you can hear it from one person in the Hyles family. I am so very sorry for what happened..."

Ha, that's how you know she is no longer an Independent Fundamental Baptist! She recognizes that there are victims strewn along the way (a la The Parable of the Good Samaritan) and rather than ignore them, (or kick them, as IFB churches tend to do) - she acknowledges and validates them. And apologizes! Wow!

  2. I too am a member of First Baptist Church, although I am very much on the fence. Yes we have a new pastor. No, that does not make everything all wonderful now. There are many openly decadent members who are actively committing heinous sins (incest and adultery being in the main) that are covered up by those who know and could bring the evil deeds to light but choose not to ...."for the good of the church." Yes, it is much more preferable to condemn abused wives and children to a lack of justice, a lack of credibility, and a lack of compassion just so some wicked decadent man can walk freely amongst the congregation and pretend to be a wonderful human being. There are deeper problems at the church, and putting a happy face and saying we have a super swell new pastor is NOT going to fix the fact it is corroded.

  3. Hey, Times, in the name of unbiased reporting, why don't you report the fact that Judge Lozano is also receiving many letters that are against any leniency for the guilty Jack Schaap? The brainwashed, weak-minded, misguided bleeding hearts who write half-witted letters in support of an unrepentant megalomaniac pervert who, with his wife and posse of frat-boy yes-men assistants turned a once-thriving ministry into a laughingstock are not the full story.

  4. "All residents in NWI have to deal with the folks because they are constantly knocking on the door on weekends asking people to come to that church..."

True, true. Well, they really believe that unless you go to THEIR church, you don't actually go to church at all. They even had one of their assistant pastors state that, very recently and very emphatically, in a speech to the church like a month ago. He said their church is God's only church in Hammond. If they truly believe that, their arrogance is beyond the pale. I have a co-worker who goes there, who keeps pestering me to go there, and he thought I would like listening to that speech so he shared it with me from the church's website...all I can say is, "Wow, are they ever impressed with themselves."
