  1. It's Good Friday, not "Spring Holiday." Just like a Christmas tree is not a "holiday tree."
March 30, 2013 12:44 am on All five Porter County libraries shut today for spring holiday
  2. I am out in the community all the time. I NEVER hear racial slurs or negative comments of any kind directed toward minorities. From my experience Valpo has become a very accepting community in recent years and its citizens should be commended for the tolerance and sensitivity they show for each other. As to these acquisitions, until arrests are made and charges proven in a court of law, there are no "incidents" - only alleged incidents.

  3. After many good years as Mayor, Dave Butterfield seemed to just start going through the motions and had no vision for the future. The city looked dated and in need of major improvements and enhancements. Costas has completely transformed Valparaiso over the past 8 or 9 years. It's hard to believe it's the same place. He and his team (including former City Administrator Bill Hanna who was brought in by Butterfield - to his credit) have done a wonderful job. By the way, I don't care about party politics and affiliations. I would say the same if he belonged to the Democrat party, was an Independent, or whatever. He's just a guy who knows how to get things done.

  4. This is nothing more than a bunch of lame kids getting their 15 minutes of fame by getting this teacher in trouble for a problem they caused. Don't let these brats and their whiny parents get away with trying to destroy this fine man.

  5. When I see her picture I see a pathetic, empty shell. Hopefully, this serves as a catalyst for breaking the cycle of dependency and transforming her life.

  6. The victims couldn't tell what race the attackers were, or is that too PC to report. Attention: if you live in M.C., watch out for a 5-10 and a 5-8 guy. Sorry, we can't tell you if they're white, black, or purple.

  7. A culture of corruption is what you get where a culture of entitlement is widely prevalent, in this case Lake County. Not a big leap from subsidized housing, food stamps, welfare, no income taxes, phony SS disability payments, and free medical care to public officials thinking they are also entitled to things they haven't earned.

  8. We used to attend the "old" Family Christian Center in Griffith, but grew weary of the constant brow beating in every service to give, give until it hurts, and give some more. Pastor Munsey would spend as much as 15 minutes "sermonizing" about giving before every offering collection. He often worked the "give to get" angle - plant a seed, a harvest is coming, don't miss out, etc. He would go so far as to forecast specifically when you could expect a "return on your investment." At the same time he was pressuring a hard working, mostly blue-collar congregation to give up their limited, hard earned funds, the Munseys were living a very lavish lifestyle.

I'm not surprised that things have now spun out of control. The fix for this is probably not as complicated as it might seem. For starters, the entire Munsey family needs to stop trying to deflect blame for a situation they know full well they have caused and created. After honest admission of guilt and repentance for wrongdoing, anything is possible.
