The only thing I would add to your advice is that the family leader create a collaborative process in which everyone can put their “fingerprints” (ideas) on the family vision and values. Too often founding generations try to “tell” the younger generation the way things need to go in regard to expectations and clarity.
The problem is today's younger generation isn't very good at following mandated orders. The successful founder knows how to strike a delicate balance between being a strong leader and inviting future generations into the creation of the business’s future Vision.
Lastly you are dead on about the family learning to ‘get over it” and focusing on creating a businesslike atmosphere built upon mutual cooperation and trust. I keep encouraging the families to learn how to practice practice practice! Deliberate practice is the key to long-term success.
