  1. Thirty thousand cars a day? Really? This traffic volume must be needed to service the "hundreds" of daily flights coming into the gary airport.

  2. Rather than raise wages, let's lower prices. Was having a side salad the other day at McDonald's the salad was so much smaller than before. Yet the price was the same - one dollar for ten cents worth of lettuce. Businesses are more concerned with stockholder satisfaction rather than the consumer. If minimum wages increase, the price of goods will increase in lockstep. This is a lose-lose situation.

  7. The Hammond Library system started down the road to ruin when the employees decided to unionize in the 90's. One by one the branches closed and most of the employees were let go. McDermott wants the library gone because it's allowed to levy taxes. The tax dollars that were going to the library would be replaced by who knows what.

Like the Gary Public Library system, it's time for Hammond to pull the plug. Thank goodness I live in Porter County where our system is strong and relevant. Nothing like going to the library and finding a full parking lot. New books, great programs and an excellent staff enrich the city and citizens.
