  1. 1.5% is a bitter pill to swallow. If I remember correctly, Porter County's income tax rate is .5%. Lake County would automatically be higher then Porter County. While I don't believe people will flock to Porter County, it does add another negative for why people should be moving out of Lake County. The property tax rates are already higher then Porter and add this county tax and you basically leave no more reasons to stay in Lake. Lake is far more crime infested and this lack of a county tax was a reason for people to move to Lake versus Porter.

    I just don't understand how Lake County property taxes can be levied by the state and sit unallocated for the County that pays them. The taxes that people pay are to fund and pay for things needed in their county. If Lake County can't even use the money that is collected, sooner or later, the county tax will have to be adopted. We are going on the 6th year that Lake property taxes have been held over the resident's head. Almost sounds like a bribe! Lake County you better impose a county tax or you won't get the property taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Why is Earline Rogers in office? She gets angry because the spending in Calumet Township is nearly double the allowed rate? Its almost as if she wanted this truth to never come to the surface and let Calumet Township keep continuing its mismanagement. How in the heck could it cost almost $2.50 to distribute a dollar of relief? Sounds like the people receiving the assistance aren't the ones lining their pockets, but more the people who are in charge of allocating the money.

    When I hear people like Earline Rogers talk, it makes me wonder why she got elected? Her comments sound ignorant and spiteful. Most intelligent people could do a better job then her. She has the nerve to slam a paper for reporting the egregious news? And Tallian is another idiot who has no business in this matter.

    I am so glad that Indiana has Republicans in the majority. Everyone knows that Calumet Township will not be able to cut their spending enough to satisfy the bill and finally Griffith will rid itself of this plague!

  4. The airport no doubt has a ton of potential for any type of business. You have a hub in Chicago only minutes away. Nowadays, to create a new airport of this size would need so much state and federal deals that it would seem impossible. This airport now looks small and ghostly, but I definitely see that it could be a huge profit maker if the right businesses and people took it over.

    Much like Midway airport was looked down on in the 1960's through the 1980's so is this airport. Now look at Midway and think of how you and I cannot possibly live without it. I can see the same type of development take place for Gary. It will take time and probably a new president before anything realistic happens.
