  1. It would be nice if someone at The Times would report on what the law actually says, what the HPL budget actually says and what the HPL's request actually says, because when you read this article and then read the previous reporting on this subject you can plainly see that someone (either at the paper or the city controller's office) does not know what the he\\ they are talking about.

Basically, the HPL tax levy is $0.22/$100 assessed valuation and that levy has raise $3.6 million.

The HPL only budgeted to spend $2.8 million, which means there is an $800,000 surplus from the HPL levy as-is.

HPL does not want to increase it's rate, it only wants to be able to spend the surplus money it has already collected.

    Bobby Lendi is an idiot.

  2. Pera's letter says that merit selection is unconstitutional.

If that's the case, then it means that Pera is holding judicial office in contravention of the Indiana constitution, because he was appointed to the bench through merit selection by Governor Frank O'Bannon.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  3. I do believe that it is an appropriate policy and that the ordinance should be adopted.

However, I also believe that Markovich is only raising this issue because he personally cannot double-dip any longer, like he did when this do-nothing money grubber collected city of Hammond paychecks as both an elected councilman and an appointed port authority commissioner.

It is the alleged move to Hobart, that is supposed to have ended his authority to fire her.

It's spelled out very clearly in the article.

  8. I find it amazing that Gary/Chicago airport authority has "up to $10 million" lying around that they can devote to such an effort.

Has no one ever considered the fact that when government bodies (of which the GCAA is) spend tax money on lobbyists and in turn those lobbyists spend money wining & dining and making campaign contributions to other government officials, that tax dollars are essentially being converted to private uses that tax dollars are not intended for (i.e. funding campaigns, personal use by elected officials) simply by making lobbyists "middle(bag)men"?

    Insanity!

  10. I've been hearing about what a "potential asset" the Gary airport is going to be for over 20 years.

In that time it has benefited no one but construction contractors and Gary political cronies.

It is a white elephant. It always has been and always will be.
