  1. @myspin01...

It saddens me to see such pessimism. As a graduate of the East Chicago school system who has gone on to have both personal and professional success, I know first hand what is possible with just some dedication and hard work. To make such a broad generalization is unfair and close minded. The kids in the EC school system should not be faulted and neglected based on the perception of who their parents are. These kids deserve a fair shot.

Your post reads like that of someone embittered by what you perceive to be a society of "entitled" Americans waiting for a free ride. The 47%, if you will. Don't you then think that it is our duty to provide adequate education to these "entitlement" folks, in hopes that a better and more fullfilling method of survival can be established?

No matter who one's parents are, no one grows up thinking "One day I'll be an adult and I'll get on welfare and live on easy street." A good education is priceless and it can open up doors that perhaps were once unimaginable.

Good luck to the newly elected EC school board. You have a tough road ahead, but there is nothing that can't be accomplished with just some hard work and dedication.
