That said, and not knowing the history of Town Council infighting issue, but knowing that it is difficult to accurately capture minutes of every meeting in concise, yet complete form, here is a suggestion for not only St. John Town Council officials, but for all Region Town Councils and public agencies - purchase a digital voice recorder for several hundred dollars, and record all meetings, so that interested residents (and public officials) have accessible an undeniable record of what transpired at the meeting. Such recordings could be posted to town web sites the day after the recorded meeting was held, as there should be no need to approve or redact a recording of the meeting.
The Region, in its own unique way is a tourist mecca for some. But for both residents, visitors, and thru-travelers, the Marquette Greenway will be a boon. Along with the American DIscovery Trail, which also will be passing through the Region, the Marquette Trail will offer the cross country bicycle rider safer passage though our corner of Indiana, not to mention an opportunity for local residents to get off their butts and enjoy the out-of-doors.
To CitizenVoter:
And do not the factories, railroad tracks, and major highways in the Region also contribute to the "ugliest mess known to man"? How many trees were cut for all the industrial infrastructure?
I welcome the opportunity to be able to safely bicycle across the Region - as do many others. I think both of you should dust off those old bikes sitting in your garages, pump up the tires, and actually ride some of our bike trails - or even park your gas-guzzler at one of the trailheads and take a walk. Maybe, just maybe, you will gain a new appreciation for the many miles of biking/walking trails that have been built in the Region, as thousand of other area residents have.
This trail network makes it possible for residents to leave their cars at home, and get some exercise while taking care of everyday tasks - by bike. What could be better?
Yes, the Waverly bridge is currently unused, but consider that intense competition for these funds only allows bits and pieces of trails to be built any one year, and that it may take many years to realize the completed trail. Rest assured, the Waverly bridge will eventually be used.
Dust off those bikes sitting in the garage, and check out the trails network in the Region - you may be pleasantly surprised.
Maps are available at many local bike shops and libraries - for online versions, see
