- Hanlon opens the story by writing about the three people who drove 30 hours from California, but never explains why. Were they alumni? Relatives of players? He just kind of throws it out there and leaves the reader wondering, in lieu of any reasonable explanation, what kind of crazy people drive 30 hours for the Indiana 2A championship.

- If I were on the school board of any school district with any vacant buildings, I would introduce a motion to level them all. The state law forces those buildings to be given away to competitors who will end up taking state funding away from the district. So tear them down and avoid the issue.

- Not a very balanced story. What about the perspective of those who oppose the proliferation of military-style weapons among the general public?

- And where, pray tell, is the balancing perspective of the people on the other side of this issue who endure the constant harassment of these religious zealots who want to mind everybody's business but their own? I was taught that journalists were supposed to provide more than one perspective on issues they cover. This story is so biased it doesn't even mention the other side's existence, much less provide a balanced view.

- For heaven's sake, how long is Chesterton going to whine about this? Look, folks, you've got a growing community, and you've got the 30th-largest school in the state. The IHSAA has to draw the line somewhere. What's the alternative? Should the top class be reduced to 16 teams? Eight? Four? I know -- maybe we should just have a top class with Ben Davis and Carmel and let them play one game for the state championship every year. Oh, but wait, then there would still be Warren Central, and they're just too gosh-darn big to compete with, too. Shut up already! You're in 6A, and you belong in 6A. Stop whining.

- Tim, if you don't think Pete Visclosky is in touch with his district, you clearly haven't paid any attention at all to his record. He is in the district almost every weekend and often there for weeks at a time when Congress is in recess. Yes, he has a home in the DC area. He has to, as do all the others who represent distant districts in Congress. Don't be silly.

- Spectacular comeback by a team that, in recent years, hasn't been known for its clutch performances, especially on the road. But this team has a couple quality road wins now (Murray State, Detroit), and had to come from behind to get both of them. If only VU could have the Nebraska, Oakland and Loyola games back. But at least VU gets another shot at Loyola. This might shape up to be a pretty good season after all.

- The editing in the sports section just gets worse and worse and worse. I don't know whether the writer messed up the opening paragraph or not, but clearly the editors were asleep at the switch. How many times is The Times going to accept these foul-ups before hiring someone competent?
