  1. I agree Claire, Taps should not be played daily at sunset. I feel the true meaning/specialness of this song would would eventually become routine to the folks downtown and nearby areas who would hear it every single day. Special occasions, or holidays...yes, it would be appropriate, but not 7 nights a week.

  2. Now now Earline, don't be a sore loser!
April 05, 2013 10:56 am on Senate OKs limits on Calumet Twp. spending, gives Griffith chance to leave
  3. Dear Clueless posters......these aren't union people...they're salary. The company pays them while they're walking.

  4. Gettin' there!.....
Please Earline....be honest, if the working folks of Griffith stop contributing to the non-working folks of your district who will be the cash cow?.....you know it , the people of Griffith know it, and finally the elected officials in Indy know it.

  5. "3 year contract, 2 thousand signing bonus, 3 percent wage increase over length of contract."

If this is accurate I guess it's better than taking a pay cut....1% a year pay increase?, that doesn't even keep up with inflation, no wonder it's a 3 year contract. Figure decent pay increases were dropped in favor of taking care of our retirees, we'll see.
September 03, 2012 4:53 am on United Steelworkers, U.S. Steel reach tentative agreement
  6. Exactly commodore...the union is NOT asking for big wage or benefit hikes.....it's the company who is asking for major concessions. And this is from a company who is making money.....if they weren't we wouldn't have enjoyed our respectable profit sharing checks....first time in years.

Agree with past posts...the union needs to adapt to the changing world economy, to remain competitive we must evolve to remain a world class steel producer.
September 01, 2012 7:00 pm on Steelworkers continue contract negotiations
  7. Mantis..you wouldn't know but our quality is number 1 at Ford and Toyota vs all other suppliers, even the overseas mills......our efficiency is is top notch vs all other comparable integrated mills...

You can say what you wish, but unless you work in the mill you just don't understand or have access to the numbers.
September 01, 2012 6:55 pm on Steelworkers continue contract negotiations
  8. Steelspouse...if your husbands wages were cut drastically in the last contract then he's hiding his income from you! We all got the same pay increases......you didn't take a pay cut...unless you're talking about some local incentive agreement that your local union rep's agreed to with the company in order to fire up the idle blast furnace.

Yea...Mittal bit the big one last contract, he let US Steel settle first and he had to take the pattern......not this time though, no pattern agreement was made by the parties.

  9. Good thoughts I/Mind....two tier pay is something the auto workers fought against for years, but they knew in order to survive they had to bite the bullet and accept it.....it's not a forever thing, a few years at a lower hourly rate will not bring down the middle class as I read elsewhere.

The USW must accept change, but not just roll over and die!
We must evolve with the times or we won't survive...this isn't the 50's or 60's...this is a global economy like it or not...Mittal could close shop here and still be a a rich man...we are not so vital to his survival that he's not afraid to move his operations further south into South America.

    Adapt....Change....Survive!
