Our community was shaken by Cynthia's murder. Domestic violence is not a laughing matter, unless you are an abuser yourself.

  3. Fast' Ed,
Being proactive in divorce cases involving domestic violence means divorce attorneys and the divorce court honoring and upholding personal protective orders and taking more progressive steps in insuring the victim's safety. Divorce is the most dangerous time for a domestic violence victim.
As a victim of domestic violence, I can attest to attorneys and the Porter County Court ignoring my ex's continued violence towards me and the protective order. I have court transcripts of Magistrate Johnson refusing to honor an arrest warrant for my ex's threat to kill me. I have transcripts of Johnson repeatidly refusing to uphold the protective order against my ex.
I was the one who reported Magistrate Johnson's failure to protect domestic violence victims to the State. The retailiation I was subjected to for speaking up for victims was horrendous. The State's review of Magistrate Johnson for failure to protect dv victims disappeared six months before Cynthia's murder and Johnson was placed back on the bench. Cynthia's divorce case was before Johnson [according to news articles].

  5. Brian McGowan,
I received a remarkable phone call from Cynthia's daughter-in-law earlier this year. I was so touched by the love she has for Cynthia and the incredible stories she shared with me about how loving and kind Cynthia was.
She gave me one of the herb bottles from Cynthia's store, that I treasure. It has remained by my computer while I work on my book about how domestic violence is ignored in the Porter County divorce court system.
Please remember that the tragedy of Cynthia's murder has not gone unnoticed.

  6. VOTE FOR ATTORNEY ANTHONY PAMPOLONE!!

Let's not forget that Judge Alexa was part of the good old boy club that protected Magistrate Johnson [during the 2010 judiciary investigation]. If you want to see what Judge Alexa has accomplished and the corruption he allowed during his time on the bench, visit the website of Renee' Harrington [who reported Magistrate Johnson to state officials]:

IN MEMORY OF ABBI AND BAILEY, PLEASE VOTE FOR ATTORNEY ANTHONY PAMPALONE. LET JUDGE BRADFORD KNOW THAT RESIDENTS OF PORTER COUNTY WILL NOT FORGET WHAT WAS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN TO A WHISTLE BLOWER.

  7. Mark, I just came across this article. I wanted to thank you for knocking it out of the ball park and touching on the Lautenberg Amendment. Under this amendment an officer who is found guilty of even a misdemeanor domestic violence, can never own / possess a gun= goodbye LE career. So often, an officer is charged with another crime other than domestic violence assault in order to protect their career.
Many states have created loopholes around the Lautenberg Amendment to protect police officers. In Michigan, they widened the scope of MCL 769.4a [which allowed to those who pled guilty to misdemeanor dv charges to have the charge erased after one year, if they did not repeat and they abided by conditions of probation]. Now, police officers in Michigan charged with felony dv, can plead under MCL 769.4a and have the charge erased after one year. The most infamous was that of Detroit Officer Steele who was charged with numerous dv counts and was facing life in prison. He pled guilty under MCL 769.4a...and after a year was back on duty with a clean record: www.michiganoidv.blogspot.com

It is a sad reality that why laws are put in place to protect victims of officer involved domestic violence, there are those in power who are going to wiggle around those laws to protect the officer instead of the victim. Thank you so much for bringing this to light.

  8. Bobsr, When my friend was in the Lake Station Go-Lo gas station this morning, there was a man who had put the BP gas in a new lawn mower...it completely ruined the lawn mower. :(

  9. Update on BP's "Solution to the bad gas". My friend called me and told me that she went into the Lake Station GO-LO gas station for the umpteenth time to get a receipt for her gas. The manager's reply today, when he refused to give her a receipt: "Your gas in your car is your receipt...When you have the gas removed, save some of the gas...And send a container of the gas to BP."

Any questions as to why the AG needs to become involved in this mess?
August 22, 2012 12:24 pm on Indiana attorney general investigating BP gas recall
  10. Ordinaryguy: It appears that you were not one of the unfortunate drivers who purchased the bad gas. BP is taking no action to assist the folks whose cars were damaged by the BP gas. All BP is giving right now is lip service. They have issued a statement stating that they may assist customers with perhaps nothing more than free gas.
Yes, the AG needs to step in, to insure that ALL motorists [including you], are not putting a defective product into your vehicle, which in turn can cause hundreds of dollars in damage. The AG needs to insure that BP steps up to the plate and reimburses each and every motorist whose vehicle was damaged by the use of bad BP gas.
In regards to your comment "things happen, face it, and get on with it". My friend whose car was damaged by BP gas is very ill. She depends on her vehicle to get her to and from doctor appointments. She is on permanent medical disability. She does not have the funds to fix the damage done to her car. If left up to only BP, I wonder how long her damaged car will sit in her driveway.
