- This is the worst train line I have ever seen. It takes 1 hour and 5 minutes to travel from downtown Gary to Chicago opn a good day. This is roughly 32 miles. It is unbelievable that even on a good day they can't average much more than 30 miles per hour. The wires are prone to problems from snow and other issues. This is one of the few areas in the world that get lake effect snow and they put a system that is crippled by snow here. This is Indiana not India lets move into the 20th cenury, oh wait maybe even the 21st century.
