- Everyone is blaming Assistant Chief Kerr. May I remind you that this man has been in this position for less than two months. The real persons to blame are Taylor and Snedecor. Both of them are weaslling around and screwing with the safety of the citizens they are sworn to protect. Sure an ALS Engine is nice but what it is carries a drug box, a monitor, and maybe an airway bag..it's not going to get those patients to that hospital any quicker. Taylor and Snedecor, if you venture onto here at all, I will make this perfectly clear. You are both horrible people who should be ashamed of the way you are handling the management of your city, the actions you have committed disgust me and those around me.

- Finally someone who sees the private ambulance service for what they really are. I'd rather be in that back of an ambulance were I'm know as a patient and not a "customer"

- Schererville only has 16 full-time firefighters, the rest are part-time firefighters. They also only run 2 stations, 1 engine, 2 ambulances, and 8 personnel AT MOST on a shift. Even with this staffing they are always stretched on calls, running back to back. Hobart needs 50 to cover 3 stations, 3 engines, and 3 ambulances and that even stretches them. Hobart has a high call volume and its population increase drastically during the day. If you're going to compare a department, get some facts straight first.

- @J Bird Crown Point's volunteers are just as well trained as its full-time firefighters. Most are EMTs and have all their firefighting and rescue certifications. They are paid through the volunteers association and are vital because having a full-time department would not work in CP. So stop by CP's firehouse and see how it actually works before you open your mouth and hide behind a computer screen.

- The private model does not work. People want to believe it works because it saves them an almighty dollar. Departments like Crown Point, Schererville, and St. John will continue keep their services because they believe in better care for their citizens rather than saving a few dollars.

- You are so right! Because when a government is involved in EMS they aren't really looking to turn a profit. Which is WRONG. That why greedy corportations need to take over EMS and staff "ambulances" with warm bodies who know only have to put on a band-aid instead of using the cream of the crop. I can't believe how right you are!

- The paramedics and EMTs are firefighters. When you can find those volunteer firefighters let me know. For the city of Hobart, you will need at least 80, so you find those 80 volunteers, add in the cash to pay for training and gear. Then make sure that you have enough guys to cover the day shift when most volunteers are working and you win.

- Commodore and Fighting_Irish_Fan I hope someday you both will need the fire department, because you're attitude would change so drastically and you would smile and those firefighters will do as much as they can for you. And as soon as your ordeal is over, you will sit there and bash them to no end because of your greedy way and the worshiping of the almighty dollar.
