I am not saying this to be condescending, but your point would better be made with explanation rather than "one liners", emotionalism and sarcasm. I would like to understand your reasoning better without the vitriol and labeling of those you have deemed to be your enemies. Clark's statement in its entirety actually gave reasoning and thoughts in the context of her experience. Could you be right? Possibly. However, it is hard to know with the emotionalism and "swagger" you attempt to convey standing in the way.

TeaPublican, I am sure you spout things about the Constitution when it pads your argument, but these teachers have the right to peaceably assemble and criticize the governing bodies. You have obviously exercised this right and kudos to you. As a right wing conservative I must say though that people from both sides start to believe the rhetoric of their side rather than reasoning through the issues. If you were in the teacher's position without the possibility for greater compensation for greater work, then you would not do the greater work and most likely feel as they do. If you notice there are other systems in the world that ask greater work, time and loyalty without giving greater compensation...none of them are capitalism. I am sure you are a capitalist, as I have never met a Tea Party Communist or Socialist. You seem to exemplify this as do some of the comments in response to yours. Consider this and be mindful that assuming things about people and attempting to vilify a group in order to dehumanize them in an attempt to make them inferior to you is the classic way to set up a straw man, but does little to get at the truth...if the the truth matters to you. Try considering all sides of a matter before developing and sharing your opinion. We are all guilty of this at times, but some people are aware of it and others live without every realizing it.

Many of those who start leave the profession you describe within four years for an easier and higher paying job that works 12 months instead of 10. That should say something about the profession. At any rate, having been told that you will never see a raise for the rest of your career, which is what these teachers have been told in essence, is fine for the few that are on the high end of the scale you mentioned since they are retiring soon anyway. However, for those on the lower end of the scale can you actually say that you think that encourages the best to stay in your district? Or do you believe that teaching is unlike other professions and should be held to some double standard of altruism? Maybe teachers should be more charitable with their time?

The corporate model of success in sales and management being rewarded with bonuses is stimulated by the fact that managers and sales people can have their work quantified fairly and managers have the ability to terminate underperforming employees. Teachers are the managers, and are required to produce high results without the leverage or ability to choose their employees or terminate them for lack of performance. Students are the employees in this model. One cannot compare apples to oranges and expect fair results, but they can read their agenda into them and press on regardless of integrity.
