If you are a teacher or spouse of a teacher, I think we all know that as with everything one bad person should not condemn the whole profession. But you also have to look at the views of the parents who try their best to raise their children to be responsible intelligent adults all the while trying to keep as much evil out of their lives as possible until they are mature enough to deal with it on their own.
And then in walks a 27 year old (teacher) whether male or female who decides they not only want to teach your child (yes under 18 is a minor child still in the care of a hopefully responsible adult) But they want to have sex with your child.
The few teachers we hear about who act inappropriate are the ones who get caught and outed after the fact. The ones we don't hear about get quietly let go and go on to wreak havoc in other children's lives.
The teaching profession has to stop trying to just defend their position and adopt the It's Not My Fault, But It Is My Problem attitude and get rid of the pedophiles.
No every teacher is not a pedophile. Most are there because they love what they do.
but it seems too many are afraid to call attention to the few who take advantage of the position for fear of smudging their own image
And as much as I like the "If you can read this thank a teacher" banners I see everywhere you have to remember that If my children are sitting in your class thats because I trust you enough to watch over them in my absence. She didn't meet him in a bar having gotten in with a fake ID,she didn't meet him while out driving around with friends acting older than she was,she didn't meet him walking down the street and lying about her age.She met him in a class room where he was supposed to be the responsible adult,Where he knew more about her than her parents knew about him.His teachers must be proud about now.

If she wrote it up,she saw more going on than sitting.Immediate action would have involved a full report at least a temporary suspension and a conference with parents and an outside counselor in November.
So what was going on in Hammond last week that would have made this story strangely be overlooked for a few days? State of the City address on the 27th maybe...
