  2. So you believe every single person in prison is guilty without a doubt? And no one has ever been framed or accused of something they didn't do? Wow, must be nice living in your world.

  3. MistrEd, I am not trying to cover the fact that my brother made a stupid mistake when he was 20 years old. His case is a whole other story which I won't get into here, because this story is talking about mental health care in prisons.

  4. I am so glad someone else noticed that something is really wrong with the way prisoners who are mentally ill are being treated. My brother served 20 years in prison, he was perfectly fine when he went in, but of course he fell into a deep depression, about 10 years into it is when I began to notice in his letters and when he called that something was wrong. I called the prison to let them know that he was not well, that the things he was saying didn't make sense. He began hearing voices, he believed someone was invading his thoughts, I researched some of the things I began to notice and it seemed my brother was having signs of schizophrenia. When I called the person there told me that they would look into it, well apparently they did, they must of sent a psychologist to speak to him because the next call I got from him was one were he was upset about thinking he was crazy and why I had called and told them to send someone. That was the last I heard about that. Course without treatment my brother got worse, he lost so much weight and just seemed to be getting worse, he spoke of wanting to fight his brothers when he got out and honestly I began to be afraid for my family's safety. My brother was release Dec 28th, he is now being detained to be deported. Its so hard for me to understand how he was in prison and served all this time, was under their care and I KNOW they knew my brother was not right because he got into trouble because of this at some point, why if he is under the DOC care they didn't get him the help he needed so that this disorder would not get worse?? Now he will be out free to walk around and what? Really go out and hurt someone because of his disorder? And land right back in prison? Oh but wait I guess it won't be the USA's problem anymore, cause he will be in Mexico, so if he does hurt someone it won't be anyone in this country. All of this infuriates me! Because this puts my family in Mexico in danger! Because the "system" just kept him locked up when he got into trouble cause of the voices, and didn't get him the treatment he needed, so now 10 years later, this disorder has taken over and my brothers chances of being able to integrate back into society are very low, not only because of his disorder, but having to learn how to be out in the world and not taking someone looking him the wrong way as a sign of they want to hurt me so I need to go into defense mode from so many years in prison. Thanks DOC! I do hope Gov Mike Pence fixes this part of the system and helps those who are suffering from these disorders to get the treatment necessary.
