  1. A friend recommended this website. It offers a lot of information and a natural treatment and preventative alternative. www.licekiller.com

  2. I have a child at Peifer. What you are reacting to is the fact that that I simply do not sound like you. I disagree with the some of the other posts, just as you disagree with me. It not rude to call someone on the carpet or inquire as to why someone that had so much information chose to do nothing. I don't like it when people try to get others riled up and angry with speculation and accusations. Come with facts and solutions or stay home. And, come one, no one in any school's admistration would comment on these types of rant posts.

  3. According to your "truth," you had information regarding the problem and, instead of taking affirmative action and becoming part of the solution, decided to complain, point fingers, and assign blame. That doesn't fix the problem either, does it?

  4. So, what you are saying is that you have no evidence of a "false negative" determination by the staff --- which would actually be detrimental to the situation. Further, you blame the school system for the fact that there are parents that lack either the common sense or mental capacity to educate themselves on head lice prevention and treatment. You seem to have a lot of information about a Peifer student that "had lice 4 times in 2 years." Have you reached out to that student? His/her parents? You seem to know a lot about prevention and treatment. Have you reached out to the family you assert is struggling with this problem? Have you contacted the school (in a civil manner) and clearly articulated your concerns that inspectors are not changing gloves or sharing combs? Did you witness this for three days in a row and do nothing? Incredible!

  5. I commend Peifer's Administration for handling this situation both agressively and in a manner that maintains the expected level of professionalism. The school has taken appropriate steps to control the outbreak and provide all necessary information to the parents and students while minimizing any disruption of the children's educational experience. I am always suspect of commenters that use phrases such as "it is quite likely" and "generally" before stating some unsupported conclusion (see above comment). Unless the above writer was actually there to observe and document each diagnosis of head lice, they have nothing upon which to base their conclusions that the cases were "misdiagnosed" or made by someone "unequipped" or "unauthorized" to make such a diagosis. (And, really? What does "'unequipped' or 'unauthorized' to detect a louse" mean? Perhaps the above commentor would suggest written permission from the louse...) Also, US LLC's conclusion that head lice "does not justify exlusion from school" is absurd. The articles published by the entities the commenter refers to speak of head lice as a "nusiance" and declare that is it not a health risk and as such should not lead to children being sent home. Even though lice do not spread disease, the school has legitimate educational reasons to send students home in order to prevent the spread of head lice. If nothing else, lice is a distraction. Clearly, a student body covered in head lice and scratching away would materially and substantially interfere with the educational experience of all students. FInally, although the above reader is certainly entitled to his/her opinion that "the school and buses should NEVER be treated for lice," they are incorrect in their assertion that Peifer's pest control methods are inconsistent or violative of state and/or federal regulations. Please check your facts before publishing unsupported assertions that might case unnessary speculation and/or harm to this fine school. In fact, Indiana's Administrative Code explicitly provides for the use of pesticides at schools. Thank you Peifer for your dedication to the wellbeing, education and privacy of your students and staff --- You are doing a great job!
