1. Since everyone will have to consolidate in 2014 this was just an opportunity to save money in the budget. With a town that receives so little anyway wouldn't you want to save as much to use for officers? Many towns are having to cut police and fire and since New Chicago was given a chance to save money now you say they are going to close? Where did your facts come from? Maybe you should go to a town meeting and find out all the facts. They are not disbanding the police department.

  2. Please note that the officer in charge has all qualifications to be Chief of Police. Because New Chicago has consolidated early there was no longer a need for dispatchers. There currently is 2 positions as police clerks. And like any other government department they are not open on the weekends to pick up reports. Officers however are there 24 hours a day and are available with a pick up of a phone. Please do some research before posting untrue comments. If you have a concern ask your local officers to see how they like the new system. And if you find the department or anything else in town unprofessional you don't have to live there.
