  2. Hmmmm....... Maybe this has something to do with the Times views and support for the income tax. Knowing this would be the single most commented story the Times has ever seen and that there were only 2 out of 115+ people agreeing with the staff at the Times I see clearly why they want to shut it down. Don't worry people after the tax passes the comment option will be back.

  3. Actually the fires are probably about 10-20 times as many and ambulance calls 3-4 times. Do research before you try to say what certain city public safety needs.

  4. This Chief has been in the paper numerous times with problems against numerous firefighters. I am starting to see a commond denominator here. And his response this time is he is looking out for the best of the city. Kind of like taking that ambulance out of service?

  6. Wake up Gary! This fire was blocks from a fire station. Why could firefighters not get to the victim in time? Because the city has been cutting the fire department so much that the crew manning that station were on the other side of the city fighting another fire. All while the city adds to the friends and family plan of the mayor and gives outrageous raises. God Bless this victims family and please wake up people. Hey Times I gave you the real story now maybe a little follow up?

  7. Always all this news of Hobart adding homes or businesses and yet cuts to the fire department. I believe if I were a Hobart Firefighter I would approach this and further companies to express the cuts and lack of fire safety before they consider expansions. Maybe the companies could help encouraging increasing safety to the council and mayor before jumping into the fire literally. The Hobart Administration has falsified records and staffing in the past to encourage better insurance ratings when audited. Putting additional staff and equipment while the auditors came into the city and then pulling those resources out of service once the auditors left. TRUE STORY.

Those private companies tell the town they will always have available ambulances available but they dont tell you how they will do transports in the mean time and when you call 911 you have to wait. These companies come in and take the tax money and then turn around and charge residents $1,000 and more every time you call them. It was a huge mistake when the council voted to bring them in the first place and the residents have noticed.

  9. So your argument is background checks, pshyc tests, lie detector tests are a waste? Dumb comment. Maybe we should eliminate those tests for cops and teachers too and hire anyone who walks in like prompt does? I would use a better argument if I were you.

  10. You are sadly misinformed. Look at the places like East Chicago, Merrillville, Munster who have went to these private ambulance services. They got rid of their EMS and guess how much the residents received back in taxes? ZERO! That money went on to fund things like $100,000 a year consultants and $50,000 statues. It also gave them poor service and now residents are being charged a $1,000 for anytime they call 911. So to break it down for you, you're paying the exact same taxes, getting less service, and paying more if you call 911. No one has yet given me a argument of these facts!
