  1. One thing you and the rest of the group at the Times fail to note, is that the county doesn't collect the county tax you are always pushing - the state does - and keeps it, for a year or more while they invest it to make more money for the state - not the county. If they loose their shirt doing it, it's too bad for the county. At this writing, the state is a billion dollars or more in arrears of taxes that have not been foreworded to the counties, which may account for a good part of the famous surplus. On another view, I and a good many more are lucky to earn half of what you claim to earn - we can't afford to pay more taxes. Maybe this county tax should be applied to the wealthy people of this county that earn that $100K you're talking about, and just leave us retired working class alone. If the county collected it's own tax and kept it, many of us would be more willing to try to pay it.

  2. Cline Bridge has been a big joke from the start. Anyone that has traveled Cline Avenue on a regular basisknows that it was built on the cheap. Cline Bridge construction was supposed to be monitored by INDOT, but was it? As I recall stainless steel cables were to be used to strengthen the bridge, but obviously that wasn't the case. As a long time employee of the former Atlas Cement facility east of Cline Bridge, I know that special cements are used in non-steel supported bridges such as that. Seeing ready-mix trucks supplying the construction tells me that ordinary slag cement was used instead. Now they want to replace this shaky, bumpy bridge with a toll-bridge. That doesn't surprise me - it's only the third bridge in Lake County that INDOT or Major Moves hasn't directly paid for.
If it's any consolation, Mitch won't be known for what he has done For Llake County - - He'll be known for what he did TO Lake County. I'm proud to know that I did not vote for him and his financial schemes.
