It's not evil for teachers just to be friends of students, but with what has been in the news in this era we live in it definately is irresponsible now for a parent to put their child in a position for evil to happen. Back then, parents must have thought their child was safe with an adult in authority and were not in a protection mode.

  2. Mr Ritchie was a 6th grade teacher when I went to LV in the 70s. I wasn't in his class, but he was everyone's favorite. He had KISS posters and other cool stuff in his room. At that time no one suspected him of anything......

    Mr Ritchie would always give generously to kids that were from broken homes. I remember there were two boys in particular that he would take to lunch, bowling, movies, etc. I remember I would ask my parents if I could hang out with him too. I remember my mom telling me that something wasn't right about going off with him out of school. It's not normal behavior she said.

    When I was in 4th grade at that school, we had a male teacher that invited the whole class to his home for a sleepover (boys only). I think all but one kid stayed over at his house watching "Creature Features, eating snacks, etc. For some reason I was allowed to go also. The next day that teacher arrainged for the whole class (girls too) to go up on an airplane ride.

    This type of activity between teachers and students would never happen today, but back then people never thought of teachers or other adults in authority positions capable of being evil. Looking back, as a child at that time, I don't remember times being as crazy as it seems to be now. Maybe evil was not reported and, like this article is leading to, these evil people are just passed on quietly to the next unsuspecting community.

  3. I knew Rhonda and we recently reconnected this past winter. I met him that one time. They seemed 'normal' to me. They had been together for over 25 years. Whatever happened the only thing to cling onto is the cross of Jesus. There is no way for us to try and understand or place blame. Times like this we should try and self reflect. Maybe senseless deaths and that moment of surreal terror, anguish, and grief can awaken people to realize that life is short and precious. I am a frequent lurker on here and this is the first time a story has affected me personally. I know that I am going to try to examine my own life and truly live for what is important and real. Maybe in that way, there can be a glimmer of goodness to come out of such a tragedy. We can all look up at what is above the sun instead of believing there will always be time to finish the race on your own terms.
