By this time you should have read the various documents that I sent you regarding ownership and jurisdiction of beach front property in Porter.
A simple search of the Porter county assessor’s web site will verify the true owners. Deeds and survey records do not lie or distort facts. Do not rely on Costa Dillon’s words for the truth. He does the public a huge disservice when he distorts factual material.
The National Lake Shore (NLS) did purchase property north of Lake Shore drive in Beverly Shores. Property from the shore to the middle of Lake Shore drive is part of the National Park.
Similarly, the National Park purchased property east of Wabash in Porter. Fair compensation was paid to property owners. West of Wabash, the National Park has not purchased a single square inch of private property.
Porter Beach was plotted and zoned over 100 years ago. If the NLS wants to absorb this private property into the park, they should purchase property similarly to what they did in Beverly Shores and in Porter east of Wabash.
Unfortunately for Mr. Dillon, the fair price for beach front property is very expensive. In the present economic climate characterized by high unemployment, housing foreclosures and trillion dollar annual federal deficits, property purchases for the park is NOT a high priority.
The good news is that the State Park has over 16,000 feet of beach front (as opposed to the 400 feet that the National Park controls in Porter).
Much of the State Park beach is rarely used. A focus on efforts to make the state park beaches more accessible is far more practical.
