- Not many people, especially the students themselves, can logically explain how their school was labeled with the grade it received. There are too many variables that can affect a student's learning that are not factored into the formula, making it an invalid means to which schools are evaluated. Many downstate Republicans have realized this and have tried to do something about it but there just aren't enough reasonable Republicans in Indiana to reverse the damage done by Bennett.

- Offerings of the arts, music and gym were drastically reduced the past few years in Indiana, thus the boredom. We no longer have a balanced curriculum, coursework is geared towards passing a minimal skills test.

- If the media covered the number of times teachers are physically assaulted or threatened with assault or verbally harassed from parents and students it would fill the front page daily, just in the region alone. But one teacher writes dumb things on a chalkboard and we're ready to hang him. Kids and their parents always get a pass. When did this happen?

- Much of today's legislation was written based on an allegation that teachers weren't doing their jobs effectively and unions supported them so let's decrease the amount of money they get. Since then research has shown that poverty and lack of family values is the driving force behind the lack of learning epidemic. Placing all accountability on teachers and none on parents and the community is going to had adverse affects - it's time every in poor communities shared in the blame.
