Cancel your paper and don't look back. It's insulting enough that they think we are stupid enough to believe their propaganda -- let alone PAY for it.

I admire a lot of the posts many of you have shared. Unlike the Times, you have challenged my way of thinking and I thank you for it. If you want to keep in touch with me - I'd love to hear from you.

If you want to further pressure the Times to do the decent thing, contact the advertisers and tell them you will no longer patronize any business that advertises in the Times until comments are restored.

Dear Mr. Ross,

Your decision to cancel the comments section on the Times is a bad one. More information, more background of stories came from posters than from your reporters. Without the comment section, there is really no need to continue going to your website (or clicking on the advertisers there). There is also no reason to continue my subscription. I will be calling your circulation department to cancel.

You know – and every other poster knows – that you do not need to comb through every comment. You have a “report abuse” button. Or doesn’t that really work?

I suspect that the real reason the comments are being discontinued is because a certain politician instructed you to do so over unfavorable comments about a county income tax that he strongly supports. Your caving only confirms in far too many minds that the Times is in the back pocket of local politicians and is nothing more than propaganda fluff for them. It’s insulting enough that you believe I am stupid enough to fall for it. I certainly am not going to PAY for it.

If you think the Times policy is a crock, cancel your subscription. Money talks. I'm canceling mine tomorrow morning. If I happen to notice when the comments come back up, I may reinstate it. Or I may not even miss it. Hard to tell what will happen.

Ha-ha...good one, Buzzcut! I tried the number, too -- I am guessing she had it disconnected because of the likes of all of us. A jellyfish has more of a backbone!

Are you trying to claim that there would be a property tax break that would equal what we'll pay in a county tax? Of course not! Don't try to pass this dog off as a Westminster show hound! They have already announced that the funds would be used for "economic development," and we all know that's the political buzzword for "dump it into Gary" for the airport and bus service.

If you want something that's FAIR, couple the income tax with a ban on all non-voter-approved debt on top of property tax.
