- One of the things that stands out to me is the Funeral cost that are all over the place. Geisen's in Crown Point has a charge for $750.00 (presumably for a cremation or burial at cost). Many of these well respected places will do these services at cost work with the Townships for indigent needs. God Bless them for that. However, The Gary area funeral homes: Guy and Allen were billed at $49,525.00, Powell-Coleman Funeral Home $40,850.00, Hower Funeral Home $5,550.00 , Ridgelawn Cemetery $15,500 (whom also has spaces designated for indiginent).... These are incredibly outrageous prices being paid for poor relief burials. Even in the Funeral and Cemetery world, profit is not a dirty word by any means, but no self-respecting company would charge fees this high at all unless they felt they could get away with it because they knew someone that would pay it. Also, there were a few other funeral homes that I did not add, but if my math is correct, this is close to 200 burials and cremations that the Township helped with. In comparison, North Township budgets for about $4,000 a year to help with burials and cremations.
