The whole situation is sad. The officials are elected to care, and they don’t. They use public meetings and public funds to campaign and get their name in the paper as an attempt to get votes. It sounds like the County Council, the fiscal body, doesn’t even understand the concept of budgeting nor do they care to learn although they were elected to do so. They spend hundreds of thousands dollars right out of our (the Porter County taxpayer’s) pockets on consultants who get all of their information from county employees anyway although the employees haven't got raises in forever. Then they play the blame game with each other and point fingers at the next.

Why are they paying consultants? The council members make how much? 15K per year for 12-15 meetings per year that last an hour or two. Based on my math, they are making about $500 dollars per hour and they can’t take the time to learn the basics of budgeting so they hire consultants and also pay them up to $500 per hour? What is going on here?

The politics in Porter County are a joke. It’s not a popularity contest or a game to see whose proposals win. These are taxpayer’s money they’re messing with. The decisions they make can break the people of Porter County. Yet do they even care?

There has never been an article stating that any of the Council members asked what the tax rate would be? Why don’t they ask the important questions, such as “What would the tax rate be to support this particular budget? And how much money would this cost the average tax payer? Does this increase or decrease taxes?” You would think that these are the questions they should be asking. The numbers are the numbers and they are the facts. They can’t be manipulated. WAKE UP FELLOW PORTER COUNTY TAXPAYERS!!! GET OUT THERE AND VOTE FOR CANDIDATES WHO WILL FIGHT FOR US… not just amongst themselves to get their names in the paper!!!!!
