  1. Come visit CSD's home of ten years and you will shake your head in shame but I am getting ready to pick a family member up from the new Hobart high and i'll tell you those public school kids are DEPRIVED!!!

  2. What poor results? Our ISTEP gains? Or an assessment tool the state is already in the midst of changing AGAIN due to it being unfair for many schools and school systems. We can't all be Valparaiso.

  3. Check our data. We have over 30% with IEP's. We never turn any children away. They come from schools all over.
Not all charters are the same.
CSD is renowned for our special education program.

  4. This is a case of the public being fooled by Ball State's lack of support and knowledge of their charters. Then suddenly pulling out of a few schools due to political pressure. This school's expansion was public knowledge. I find it alarming that BSU wants to play dumb about the planning and construction of this school. What else is BSU unaware of within their charters?

  5. Is NWI times on some sort a witch hunt against this school?? A new article everyday.
February 11, 2013 9:58 pm on Should Charter School of the Dunes pull the plug on its construction project?
  6. I agree in fact the ISTEP gains Charter School of the Dunes made were often double digits which is phenomenal progress in a year. Imagine if they had given this school 1 more year on probation? Then a fair decision could be made.

Also if anyone is familiar with classroom settings, all of this school's k-10 regular classrooms are in trailers outside with the exception of two. The city of gary owns their building and only allows partial use of the actual building. Can you imagine the noise, fighting the weather elements of a shoreline location, and the fact that these kids were promise a school 8 yrs ago? These students already have a huge disadvantage and made ISTEP gains. Can't they just get their new school and be given a shot?

  7. Elitist? Charter schools in Gary receive the children who are NOT flourishing in the public schools. Students with many discipline issues, students who are 2+grade levels behind, and many children with special needs that just aren't getting the services they need in public schools ie Gary. Charter schools are public schools that must accept everyone and we are tuition and fee free since over 80% of the student body qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Elitist?!?! Check your facts jack.

  8. These schools have been around for years but look at the remaining student body. Part if the problem of inner city schools is a transient student body. When Charter School of the Dunes looks at the student who have stayed for two plus years their data ie performance improves dramatically. This school has about 40% of the population float in and out. It's the nature of the beast.
Has anyone paid attention to the schools the data of the schools ball state chose not to close?

  9. In the end, all of these comments show people care about education and our children. I love it. On to the next article about CSD and other charter schools. Dare I say tomorrow? Till then.....

  10. Cridge is suffering from a horrible hangover due to drunk commenting all night long. He is contacting 'the boss' right now and will be ready to comment with his 'sources' at a later date. (Aka when he opens his next 24 case) and that's pretty 'boss' his eyes. Thanks kids for setting him straight!!
