- Hmmm after reading the complete transcript of the facebook conversation, I have second thoughts about my comment that such talk is typical of girls that age. That was pretty harsh stuff.

- Were it not for the aftermath of Columbine, I doubt that the Griffith school system would have concluded that expulsion was necessary. Such comments are typical of that age group. I do agree with a zero tolerance policy when dealing with potentially dangerous situations. However, the choice to expel should be a last resort. after determining that there was sufficient evidence to demonstrate that allowing the girls to stay in school would be either disruptive to the point of interfering with studies or potentially dangerous. It is difficult to make this judgment given what the Times reported. Was the girl being harassed in school, and if so were disciplinary measures taken? Did the situation cause disruption in the classroom? Were threats made, and if so were law enforcement officials notified? Or was it simply, as I suspect, a bunch of silly talk leading to a spiral of overreaction. I find this very sad.
