  1. Fact: Since JON THOMAS took direct control of the Shelter in November, animal adoptions have reached all time highs. Fact: Since JON THOMAS took direct control of the Shelter in November, volunteerism has dramatically increased. Fact: Since JON THOMAS took direct control of the Shelter in November, it is finally staffed an an appropriate level.
    Enjoy the election, Fred.

  2. Oh, and lets not forget, Fred, the public advisory board meeting that Evans attended and stated his recommendation for bringing in an out- of- town vet every week to walk through the shelter and pick the animals to euthanize, as this person would be better than someone familiar with the animals, as they may be 'too attached' to make that difficult decision.
And remember his suggestion of labeling all dogs vicious until it could be proved otherwise? Also stated publicly. Save your breath defending the guy and stop assuming you know more about what's really gone on. Have you asked the director his opinion of Evans? Maybe you should.

  3. Evans fought bringing in Shelter Planners for months, then skipped the meeting with them entirely after their whole visit was delayed for months and scheduled around his vacations. He sure doesn't miss a photo opp., though, does he? Talk to anyone behind the scenes at the shelter and see who they are voting for. It is not John Evans. They just aren't publicly speaking against him for fear of his retaliation if he does win.

  4. "Evans proposes building a new county garage for repairing Sheriff's Department vehicles to a site near Porter County Jail and creating an impound lot there, too. The two county garage buildings would be leveled and the concrete pads used to build an animal shelter complex, with an exercise area between the two buildings. The existing animal shelter then would be turned over to animal control officers for their use."
The entire report by Shelter Planners of America is online for anyone in the public to access. It specifically states that the current location should NOT be used for a new shelter and the current building should NOT be used ever again for housing animals in any capacity. Did Evans even read it?
Hmmm....perhaps the county will see the 'progress' at the shelter fall to the wayside once this re-election is over.
I agree with the sentiments that the new director is probably good.....Evans should stop riding the guy's coat-tails to re-election. Evans didn't care before, he doesn't care now, and he sure as heck won't care if he wins on Tuesday.
Good luck, homeless animals of Porter County and those who care about you.

  5. Oh, Larry, seriously?? You know better than this. John Evans has taken no sincere interest in that shelter, EVER. The animals may have been euthanized under Biggs, but they were also euthanized for years under Evans. THEN, they were warehoused and hoarded by the hundreds under Evans. The only reason he is even involved in the shelter now is because it is election time.
Evans had his back against the wall by a community outraged by the ongoing suffering there and has made an insincere attempt to feign control. The only reigns he has taken is hiring the same guy to run his facebook page that he hired to run the shelter facebook page. Those of us paying attention to the little details noticed, Commissioner Evans.
