  1. As the mom of a couple teenage girls, I can personally tell you there is a ton of pressure placed on girls by boys to send nudes. I'm lucky that mine have never done that. But we have had plenty of conversations about those types of pictures being pornography and about the whole "distribution and possession" issues. Is this activity confined to Munster High School? Most certainly not. Neither is the under aged drinking nor the drugs that are prevalent in today's society. But, that does not mean as parents we should ever condone the behavior. Take it as a learning experience. It may be a tough pill for some kids to swallow. If this situation becomes a criminal matter the girls involved will probably also get in trouble.

    The message is simple. Talk to your kids. Make your girls know that they have more self respect than take and send nudes. Tell your sons this is a bad thing and why. Take responsibility to teach your kids right from wrong. Our society will certainly benefit.

  4. Just a correction. The 64 yard TD was Brandon Scott not Luke Taylor. Luke is #28, Brandon is #26. The game announcers couldn't get it right last night either.

  5. I was shocked to see this on the front page. My heart breaks for his mother. She just wants him to rest easy. The autopsy results aren't going to bring him back. She loved him and knew him. He wasn't doing drugs, there wasn't any foul play, this was just God calling back one of his own way too early. I hope the media lets it be. His mom has been through enough. Hugs Karen.

  7. What Speros and these fans of starting school a week or two later fail to recognize is a basic economic fact. People only have so much disposable income to spend on vacations and entertainment. If you're going to go to the water park you are going to go when you're off. Also most families here in NWI are two income families, mom and dad aren't going to get any more vacation days than they get right now. It's all about choices. To me, a mom of two high schoolers, I'd rather have the early start date. If Speros had his way my child this year would have had 13 days less instruction time before these AP tests. They are a national test. Every student takes the same test on the same day whether you are in New York, Indiana or Hawaii. You can't tell me that they don't benefit from 13 extra days of instructor time. Even with the early start date there is a considerable amount of work given over the summer for these classes. The AP US History course had 4 chapters that had to be read and work completed for all 4 chapters. The AP English 11 and 12 both have a considerable amount of books that must be read and students prepared to take exams over that material with NO teacher time when they return. Our LC family is fortunate that we are qualified to be able to have AP classes (along with all the dual credit courses that LC offers - thanks!). The course work is challenging and does prepare our students for college work that comes a whole lot quicker than you think. Also, there is a financial impact to my bottom line if my child doesn't do well and doesn't get college credit. My oldest will leave LC with 17 college credits this year. I can only hope that they wait until after 2016 to change it, if they do, so my kids get as much benefit as possible from AP courses.
