  1. What a shame. When Knight-Ridder owned the paper, it dominated the market in both advertising and circulation. RIP - PT.

  2. We can only imagine how difficult it must be for you mother in law, Jmo. The equipment, files and merchandise lost, coupled with the tremendous loss of 22 years at the same location must be devastating. We, as a neighboring business, hope that she will recover quickly and return to Valpo to provide us with the excellent service we could always count on.

  3. Adam, the transit center grant was never awarded by the feds.

  5. Ruth Pelke was my neighbor. She and her husband, Oscar, were kind, loving people who were always pleasant. The beast who took her life reportedly lived across the alley, in the house where I grew up. It sickened me then, and is still upsetting to think about. Paula Cooper was fortunate the law changed. She should have been executed years ago and does not deserve parole. She is fortunate to be alive and should use her baking skills in prison until the day she dies.

  6. It's not bitterness or jealousy at all, VOT. The point is that it was billed and promoted as "The Taste of Downtown," not The Taste of Upscale Downtown, or Elite Downtown. You know as well that there are other, long established restaurants that should/could have been included. It's not truly as promoted unless Tony's Pizza, The Old Style, Pastimes, Parea and others have a chance to participate and benefit. They're excluded simply because they don't have the historic district 3 way liquor license and cannot be included in the marketing and advertising contributions required by the city when acquiring the licenses.

  7. It was PACKED there later in the day. Of course only the CHOSEN few businesses got to participate, out of the numerous non historic district liquor license businesses that suffered. Maybe the Popcorn Festival should move to that one square block and let the other businesses close that day or go out of business. It is moving in that direction anyway. with at least one of the elite "chosen" businesses not even being able to make their utility bill.

  8. You never know what can happen on Tuesday Boozeday at the "house."

"It's time to drink for dirt cheap! Half priced alcohol sounds like a good reason to come out & tie one on! See you at The House!"

Yep, that is the place to be. Bring bodyguards.
