  1. It seems that this forum has taken an emotional turn. Family members, possible friends and what appears to be an angry parent. First, I want to jump back into this convo by mentioning that I am truly an unbiased party and my perspective is that of an outsider, with what I would consider to be a very educated insight on the situation, area, sports and similar circumstances.

I hate to do this but I can't stand to say nothing at this point. Mak220, you have relieved me from watching television for the past couple of days due to your posts --they are just short of a good laugh from a good show on comedy central! I would like to say thank you for correcting my misspelled word "biter" to "bitter", not to sure the readers would have caught that typo after reading such grammatically correct short masterpieces that you have blessed us all with. I guess this is a small sample of why you can't grasp (or conflict, I can't quite tell) this concept of higher education that mcnasty2008 keeps referring back to as such an important asset and quality to pursue. If not for anything else, to not look like a complete idiotic, hypercritical, moron when sitting at home posting comments on public forums and social media sites...get a job, no...a real job. You start this whole thing by expressing your opinion. Fine, you have the right to do so. But, when you use haste full and what seems to be personally biased statements, you are bound to make someone upset. (these are things we learn in school hence why it is very important to push our youth to take education seriously) As you will continue to find, when you post things like this, others will respond. This is where you, mak220, come back in and pretend like you're just "stating an educated opinion," and then make ill jabs at people with some not so witty language. And then scream "cyber bully!" I do have to say that it could be very easy for others to make such jabs at you (or at least your screen name) based off of biased opinions. For instance, it would be easy for me to state that you are most likely a stay at home mother with more time on your hands than you know what to do with, based certain bits of info taken from your posts on the Times site alone. It might also be safe to assume that you did not attend college and some may venture to argue that you may have had a hard time clawing your way through high school. I could be wrong about this one, but I would venture to say that you are most likely on a bowling team at the local smoke infested "balls and pins" joint where you enjoy your Old Style beer and cardboard nachos and cheese. I would also be inclined to assume that you don't know what to do or what it means when a red, squiggly line appears below a word you've typed on your "puter." But, once again, we're not going to stoop down to that level of play.

McNasty2008, you should probably just let go. This "woman" that you're "attacking" is definitely way to lady like to have an "online forum argument" with. Plus she's already accused you of "assaulting" her by "pounding your educated chest" and then pounding your educated fingers on the keyboard followed by a monster slam of the ENTER key! I've been assaulted before, that doesn't sound like an assault to me, maybe we should be careful with what words we're throwing around. Not to mention the point I made earlier -- you opened this can of worms. You can't expect to throw "rocks" at a crowd of people and expect nothing to come back your way. Where I come from, when someone starts something and tries to cry in the middle of that something, we don't feel sorry for them.

Mak220, I leave you with a challenge. I challenge you to forward this article, print and/or simply have someone that does not know you as "mak220" and/or doesn't really have a biased view on this situation. Have them read the article then the comments and ask them to tell you what they think about "mak220." I have a feeling you will be to embarrassed to revile yourself to your friend(s) after they share their feelings with you.

As to the topic at hand. Mr. Hutchins as the new head soccer coach of Hobart (or any) High School soccer team. Yes, the team is coming off of a couple of bad seasons to say the least. What to do? Make change? Now, change has been made. Most people that understand sports, business, economics and relationships (to name a few) also understand that when something goes on without change for a great period of time (with good results or bad), when you implement sufficient change, it takes time. With that being said, (this is at you mak220) you may not have a state championship winning team the first year with a new coach. And just in the completely normalcy of that situation coming true, you can't base the season being a success or failure off of those obvious marks. You go into "change" with small things in mind at first. Numbers (shots on/against, saves), Income (goals, wins), Outcome (goals against, lose). Then you build from there. If you have two wins this season coming out of a 4 season stretch with only 1 win, that would be considered a success. Is it the type of instance gratification we American sport fans want to see? Maybe not always, but it is a success. I'm no mathematician, but I'm pretty sure the percentage difference on that is pretty significant. Then you again take a look at the small numbers to see what other areas were in the black or red, success or fail.

It's been thrown around a few times on this forum "only time will tell," well I hope you all give Mr. Hutchins (or whomever maybe a new coach for a team) a fair amount of time and data to tell. Once again, if all parties go into the situation with negativity, that's what you're going to get, a negative outcome. Try to be positive and supportive if not for your new coach then your kid(s) on the team(s). Good luck!

  2. That's an interesting comment. I've known Mr. John Hutchins through the local sports and recreation community for a VERY long time and would have to tend, very aggressively, to disagree with mak220. I also know a very athletically knowledgeably endowed network of people that would most likely back me up on stating that he will be an excellent fit for the KIDS in the local soccer community. Like every other coach for almost every other high school team across the country, unfortunately he may not be a perfect fit for the parents, but hey, it's not about the parents. Parents are great at being unrealistic and extremely bias towards how "great" their kids are at sports (and other activities). At the end of the day, you have to take a step back and look at the big picture...maybe your son or daughter isn't behaving as well as the others. Maybe your kid(s) aren't producing as much or as well as the others in practices and off the field. Maybe your son or daughter isn't meeting the requirements to start every game. Oooor simply put, maybe your kid isn't as good as you perceive, or as good the other kids. But, I do believe that Mr. Hutchins has the attitude, skill set and knowledge bank to try to make the soccer field a place where the kids want to come out to and learn and try their hardest as individuals as well as a unit. I've seen him coach high school ice hockey to teaching little tyke's how to kick a soccer ball. It saddens me to see or hear someone jump so early to make such negative comments about a situation that hasn't even began. My guess, from being around the athletic, recreation and organization business for quite some time is simple -- mak220 is most likely biter that he/she didn't get the coaching job they applied for so let's "poo-poo" all over media waves about your shortcomings instead of getting behind your communities leaders and administrators decision(s) with at least your bare minimum optimistic attitude and energy. If for nothing else, the youth that's involved. Because at the end of the day, if Mr. Hutchins is in it for one thing and one thing only, it's the kids. This is a great (giant) step in the right direction. Don't go off preaching about how hard it is to run a marathon if you've never ran a marathon. It's not very becoming of anyone.
