All units were detailed to Game Time in reference to a large fight inside the bar. Officers advised that all subjects had left the area and officers closed down the bar for the evening.
A resident in the 2500 block of Schrage Avenue reported that he was robbed and beaten up by two male subjects wearing ski masks and blue work jump suits. The complainant stated that he was handcuffed to the stove by the subjects who threatened him and beat him. Lt xxxxx requested an ambulance to check the complainant out.
Hammond PD called to advise that they had a shooting in the 1600 block of Davis Avenue. Hammond PD also advised that they are looking for a male/hispanic approx 5-11 to 6 ft wearing a black shirt and a black hoodie over the shirt and black jeans with a buzz cut and tattoos on his neck. The shooter shot a subject in the arm and the gun jammed on the second shot. The suspect then took off from the area.
A resident in the 1600 block of LaPorte Avenue reported that persons unknown broke into her residence and broke her 42 inch Vizio TV. The complainant reported that the incident occurred on the 4th of July.
A resident in the 1500 block of 121st Street reported that persons unknown had broken into his garage during the evening hours and stole 4 tires with chrome wheels, a bike and a Matavo grinder.
Officers were detailed to Whiting Jr./Sr. High School in reference to a request on checking a student for drugs. Sgt Hale arrested a juvenile for Del. Possession of Marijuana. The juvenile was transported to the Whiting PD and Sgt Hale assisted the school personal with a locker search. The juvenile was booked and released to his parents.
Officers were detailed to the 1700 block of Myrtle Avenue to speak with a subject xxxx 4733 Ash Avenue, Hammond, IN who reported that he was car jacked while at Walgreens in Whiting, IN. Officers also spoke with another subject identified as xxxxxxxxx of 3600 Sheffield Avenue Lot 400, Hammond, IN. Officers arrested both of the subjects for Illegal Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Chicago PD was also notified that the car in question was involved in a Hit and Run Accident in their City and that the car was towed.
A resident in the 2300 block of Schrage Avenue reported that her back door was broken into when she arrived home. Officers reported that the back door window had been broken out on the door to gain entry. Officers also reported numerous pry marks on the door near the dead bolt. Taken from the residence was some loose change and 4 to 5 gold chains
A resident in the 2000 block of White Oak Avenue reported that his garage was broken into sometime between 2-17-12 and 2-20-12. Officers reported that numerous tool and equipment was taken.
Detective Sergeant xxxxx met with Lake County Prosecutors in reference to the shooting case. Lake County Prosecutors charged xxxxx of Whiting with the murder of xxxxx by means of a handgun. xxxxx was transported to the Lake County Jail.
Whiting PD was detailed to the area of the 1500 block of Fred Street to reports of numerous gun shots in the area. Officers requested an ambulance for a subject that is a gunshot victim. The ambulance advised that the subject is deceased. Lake County Coroner was notified along with the Lake County Crime Lab. The on call detectives were called out to investigate. The Coroner pronounced the time of death at 0525 hours. Deceased was xxxxx of 2103 Schrage Avenue, Whiting, IN. The body was taken to the Lake County Coroner's office. At 0425 hours Chief xxxxx contacted the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force to assist Detective's in their investigation.
By the way, BP is going to be bought after the spill trial so that might throw a wrench into things. Whiting might be better off with the new buyer, since it most likely will be a US based company.
I'm guessing this all happened in the first five minutes of the FD's arrival. They indicated they attempted to make an interior attack through the side door. Might need a ventilation expert, here, but something smells rotten.
