- So a community votes for higher property taxes on a referendum and the county should then bail them out and halp them with their property taxes? How about voting no and not seeing a raise in the tax percentage in the first place? Its pretty ignorant for a community to vote yes on something to raise their taxes and then expect to be bailed out.

- Speed racer, you must work for Fox news. The city of Hammond didn't borrow any money from porter county. The lake county council borrowed that money. Get your facts straight unless you wasn't to keep looking like an imbecile like you do from your first comment.

- Hey geniuses, the reason the COIT wouldn't go to reduce property taxes is because, if you remember, a few years ago we voted to amend our constitution to include property tax caps, limiting property taxes to 1% of your assessed home value. The only way that will increase is if a referendum is placed on a ballot and the voters choose to increase it by voting yes. There is no need for property tax relief anymore.

- Record profits for Nisource, yet their Republican buddies in Indianapolis are more than willing to pass a law that lets them pass more costs onto the ratepayers thus boosting their profits even more. And republicans wonder why middle class americans think they way they do about them.

- Once again, a litany of comments, yet no facts in any of them. Too much BS to wrap my mind around so Ill focus on the first piece of BS I came across. Patti, please stop spewing nonsense and educate yourself before you speak. Otherwise you continue to look like a fool. The Woodmar property is held by a private owner. He failed to pay taxes on the property. The property went up for auction with a listing price starting at the amount of taxes the owner owed. The city won the auction, but before ownership is transfered, the initial owner is given a set amount of time to pay the taxes and void out the auction results. And that is what happened. Hammond attempted to buy the land for the delinquent tax amount, but the owner paid the taxes on the property within the set time limit and was able to retain his ownership. The city of hammond didn't pay a dime. Consider yourself educated, for once at least. That is until you decide to post more bs on another article.
