- The Times continues to drift away (some might say run away) from it's journalism responsibilities. This is just an editorial masquerading as an article. The Times position is clear on demanding a local option income tax. It's not news to continue repeating that position.

- Bashing Unions and what they add or subtract is not the issue in this negotiation. Most USW members know that they are well compensated (pay and benefits). Many get all the overtime they can handle since the company has restricted replacement hiring for years. The issue that makes this all problematic is the lack of leadership in Washington that will fix our economy. Don't think so? Just 48 months ago when the economy was advancing, these same steelworkers ratified a contract that gave them $ 6k signing bonuses and annual pay increases with the same company that now wants most if not all of it back - and more. Why? The world economy stinks. All the spending in Washington is a band-aid that stops the blood from running down your arm while the cancer eats up your insides. Look around folks. The same demands for concessions are happening in government pension reform debates in California and Illinois to name a few. Most everybody is paying more for health insurance now and we have the unknowns of Obamacare to confront next. America is losing its mojo and there is nobody to blame but the current ineffective leaders we have in Washington. This issue with the USW and ArcelorMittal is just an artifact of the real problem. They will settle, there is no other choice.

- Are you kidding me. A board that should never exist in the first place, or at best has grown into a behemoth that is way outside the intent of the statute that created its existence, has now put taxpayers in the proverbial pickle. Looks like another costly lawsuit, ala the previous fiasco of Eagle Creek Landfill from the waster board. What a waste they are. They play, WE PAY!

- Let's look at this another way. (to the 50 or so who are paying attention) By appointing Frey, the Dems are stealing the election and disenfranchising all voters. The people haven't voted on this election and yet the Democrat candidate is being appointed to the office by a single party. We all know that an incumbent has a 10 or 1 or better edge in every election. The law says they have a right to fill the spot. What the law doesn't say is that they should be held accountable for such a brazen attempt to disenfranchise voters. Why not appoint a "caretaker" who vows not to run in the election. If she wins an actual election, then so be it.

- It's good to have a friend that supports you, but in this case the words don't match the deeds. A person with a "public servants heart" would not have broken clear professional expectations buying letting his son use a taxpayer paid for county vehicle, or taken taxpayer funded gas and excused the behavior as everybody does it. The local Feds (appointed by a Democrat) don't typically do political hatchet jobs so there must be something there in the raids. Sorry, Van Til has worn out his welcome. It's no longer about competency, it's about integrity.

- Right on. For example, did the Times call the Republican candidate for Coroner as a part of Frey coronation article? Why have they under reported on Van Til compared to the other paper? They had the nice soft piece on the Democrat Lt. Gov candidate with no mention of the other party's candidate. It seems that historical roles are reversed. We the people used to depend on the newspapers to watch out for political and corporate shenanigans, now we have to monitor the newspapers for the same thing.

- Something is brewing in Highland, pun intended. Council members missing/absent from numerous meetings "owing to a work commitment", meeting minutes are running two months behind, switching votes with the excuse of not knowing what is going on. Highland appears to be financially ok, but they keep raising this fee, that fee, that rate, etc. etc. I think we better start paying more attention.
