ValpoDoc

  1. Thanks for coverinig the story Phil. This project has an impact on the entire area, and is being opposed by all Washington Township residents in ALL subdivisions not just Pine Creek. Growth in the Valpo area is likely inevitable, but we definately do not need any more apartment complexes. So far I believe Mr. Weiss has failed to prove that there is a demand for this type of develpment. The biggest problem with the re-zoning of that parcel of land... what happens when they start phase one of the project and shortly after they realize WE WERE ALL RIGHT, there is not enough interested renters for thier luxury apartments??? Mr. Weiss will likely bail out on the rest of the project and sell. At that point there is nothing anyone can do to stop another developer from deviating from the high standards Mr. Weiss has proposed for his renters. Ultimatley the community will end up like most other apartment complexes, full of people who care little to nothing about the place they live. I hope the plan commision keeps that in mind when they make thier recommendation!!!

  2. You said it Christy! We need to pack the house agin, let them know we mean business too. Let Mr Weiss find another community to put his development. There are plenty of other cities with hospitals, if they think there are that many doctors and hospital employees looking for rental units!

  3. NO NEW APARTMENTS FOR VALPO!!! I'm so proud of all who came out to the meeting last night, and Attorney Schafer did a great job expressing our concerns. The residents of Washington Township showed their pride in their community, and we want to keep it this way. The numbers clearly speak for themselves, 45% of the properties in Valpo are rentals, I would have to disagree with Mr. Leeth that there is a demand for more rental units. Not sure where they get their data, and Valpo is a lot more than just a college town! Their desire to attract doctors and administrators from the hospital as well as professors from the univeristy is ridiculous! Just how many people do you think those places employ? Even if every employee they have moved into your "luxury" apartments, I doubt you would need 512 of them! Lets see it for what it is... A way for the developer to pad his pockets while putting all of the burden on the people of Washinton Township. You're going to drag our high performing schools down, significantly increase the traffic on our roads, and degrade the quality of life in our peaceful community! I hope all of the members of the city plan commission will remember what Attorney Scafer said about there being no guarantee that the developer will retain ownership and operations of the complex once it's built, no guarantee the high standards they are proposing will be kept in the future! Please use your heads and keep this disaster from coming to Valparaiso. Residents of Washington township we need another strong showing at next Tuesdays meeting to let them know we are serious and are not going to stand for this!!!
