- I'm not getting your connection between this article and the fire at this building...the name of the owner of the building is Thormahlen. The name in the other article was Youngjohn. I think the conspiracy theories are premature and disrespectful to the people who are dealing with this loss.

- I appreciate that you're circumstances and experiences are different. My husband has worked there for 5 years, and at times I have had to travel within the city for work (during the day). Please don't think that I'm completely naive and void of reality that I don't think bad things happen in Gary. I'm simply saying on game nights outside of the ballpark it has proven to be safe.

- I have gone to the ballpark about once a homestand for the past 5 years...I'm speaking from experience. I live in Valpo, which is considered a safe community, which experienced a hostage situation last week...a few blocks from schools, little league fields etc. We're not safe anywhere...there are creeps and criminals everywhere. Would I walk through that area of Gary on a non-game night? No. Do I take the toll road and get off two blocks from the ballpark so I don't have to drive through Gary? Yes. If you don't want to go, then don't.

- Bennigans was closed by the Railcats owner about 2 years ago due to them hosting a "club" on non-game nights. The shooting that occurred was related to that club. The Railcats use it as a "banquet hall" now to host special events. It's pretty nice. They've tried to get another restaurant in there though too. That being said, on gamedays the police presence is heavy around the ballpark and it feels safe. The ballpark is great for kids and the promotions/setting are focused on families.

- The Railcats organization is the responsible party for making this happen. They are the ones that have developed the plans with Purdue and the NCAA. And they had very short notice as Purdue didn't get the official word that they were hosting until this past weekend. The other organizations/city representing themselves as being so involved in the planning are ridiculous. The Railcats are a top class organization and they do everything they can to work with the city and bring development to the area...but the road goes both ways and if the city won't take advantage of the opportunities the SteelYard and the Railcats organization provide them...well...
