  1. Common Core Standards have absolutely nothing to do with any of the topics you quoted from Ms. Zeanah. You just used a discussion on educational standards to rage against a President you don't like. I really don't think that intelligent, thinking people will allow extremists such as yourself to take anything much less our country.

Your premise is based on false assumptions. First, charter schools are no better than public so a "quality" alternative doesn't exist. Second, parental involvement with children in necessary regardless of whether your child attends public, private, or charter schools.

  3. J Bird's point is that new so-called conservatives and Tea Party members are extreme. Case in point, how would you characterize a President that established OSHA, passed the Equal Rights Amendment, enhanced welfare assistance for families, and ended formal racial segregation? By today's standards, that President would be called a flaming liberal by Tea Partiers. That President was President Nixon.

  4. Burgermeister, you neglected to mention that the pathways would be much better if Obama weren't the president.

  5. This was a discussion about ag industry subsidies. tiretrax and H. Burger always go way out of their way to make it a discussion about President Obama. These subsidies have been around a long time, and that's the point. We can no longer afford them. And Congress appropriates money not the president. I suggest tiredtrax and Burgermeister get their own web sites and they can bash away at Obama for his remainder in office and stop annoying people who would like to discuss something else. Thank you.

  6. Most comments here seem to assume that eliminating welfare for the ag industry is a bad thing and it's all the President's fault. The government guarantees prices for the products they produce, pays to export their products, pays for a portion of their insurance, and pays them so they don't squander precious farm land. Are you kidding me? And then, the appropriately named Mr. Stoner has the audacity to say most people have an over-inflated view of government. Since farms, even family farms, are corporations, they should be allowed to compete in a free market on their own. Cut the apron strings on these welfare/entitlement programs.

  9. Wow, with all this important legislation, I'm glad they were able to find time to give the Indianapolis Motor Speedway millions of dollars each year. Charbonneau and Soliday were obviously too busy to solve the Cline Avenue debacle.

  10. This is misleading and inaccurate. Social security is not a safety net. It is a program in which I invested and yes, I want my money back with interest. Safety nets, or emergency assistance programs, account for about 12% of the budget not one-third. I'll bet you weren't counting on people knowing the difference. And since you want to steal the money I invested in Social Security, will you then also reduce the pensions of retired legislators, Presidents, federal judges and other retired federal employees? Somehow, I don't think you will.
