  1. I think the Frank Brummett guy who started this show didn't know what he was getting into by going to Gary with it. Not a shot at Gary. And I applaud Michael Essany for trying to do something so positive in a... well, not such a good place. But people didn't want to go to tapings at 9:00 pm in Gary. They were in a basketball arena! They had to add canned audience sounds because the dumb producer must have thought that Gary was where 500 people would come every night to see the same show they could watch on TV from the safety of their homes every night. Should have been done somewhere else in Northwest Indiana. To be honest, I think Brummett is the reason this show failed for two reasons -- first, he obviously didn't take care of his people, and secondly, he didn't know what he was doing as a producer and nobody figured out his level of incompetence until after the show was on the air. I feel so, so, so bad for everyone here, especially Michael. Nobody deserves to have their hard work thrown away like this. Not fair to him. He is a talented dude. Hope the community gets behind him right now because he's probably really hurting. Guy had to do the right thing and stand up for his crew by walking away from his dream. That sucks!

  2. This is hard. Saw it on Facebook and just want to say that I know this has to be rough on Michael. He has done a lot to make this community proud and I think his decision here says a lot about his character, so I'm even more proud to say I'm a fan of Mr. Essany's. I hope everybody gets through this ok and can do the show again. I only seen it a few times but thought the band was really good and Michael was a natural as always.

  5. Michael Essany has hosted two shows before. The Michael Essany Show on local cable, which went for seven years. And then he got two seasons on E! All the shows were then sold overseas where they still air and make money for somebody. This is his first break in actual late night at 10:30. Michael is 29. Johnny Carson got the Tonight Show when he was pushing 40. Same with Leno and Conan. Regis for crying out load didn't finally have a show that wasn't cancelled until he was close to 50. At 29, is anyone really prepared to say that Michael Essany isn't way ahead of where those other guys were at that age? In ten years, who knows where this will lead. I am rooting for him, first because he is actually good at what he does (and I think most talk show hosts today suck), and second, because there has never been someone who works harder. I'm not counting this guy out under any circumstances.

  6. I love it when the critics come out! Michael Essany is 29 and keeps accomplishing huge things that portray our community in a positive light. Who do you think paid for last night? There's a TV station and advertisers in Chicago who are plunking huge cash into this young man's program. I don't see any of his nitpickers on the front page! Instead of bashing a talented guy who packed VU last and put on an amazing show that highlighted his many gfts and other talented performers from around NWI, just keep making fun here from the comfort of your anonymity. You're jealous. Get over it. And get a life.

  7. This is fantastic to hear! I have missed Michael on TV and have admired all he has done to help people and businesses in community since he left VU. Chicago will be well served by our hometown legend!
