Synder went into this game scared and showed it. The apprehension and poor play calls seeped into the team and the team succumbed.
It did not help that Synder let quarterback Chris Katsafaros stay in the game after throwing interception after interception that resulted in more Merrillville points. With hands taped, Katsafaros chooses to keep the ball and run, ruining any momentum the team had, producing yet another turn-over and Merrillville score.
Snyder and Katsafaros contributed to the loss against Merrillville the same way they did against Lake Central. They say it takes a team to win and a team to lose, I disagree. It takes a team to win and it takes a coach and quarterback to lose.
When a coach and a quarterback kill the momentum of a team, morale and hope are all lost. It was clear in the 3rd quarter that all hope was lost. When Katsafaros' turn-over resulted in a 4th quarter touchdown, the fans knew nothing was going to change, so they began clearing the stands.
The Chesterton Trojans had everything they needed to win state, poor coaching and leadership killed their season and chances at state.
BTW, Merrillville did not win the "unofficial Duneland Athletic Conference tiebreaker" because there is no such thing. How low of you to take something away from the Chesterton Trojans that they worked so hard to obtain. If Merrillville was that awesome, they would have went undefeated.
