  1. He is being bashed because he betrayed the trust of 10's of thousands of people who counted on him to do the right thing, and stand for something greater than himself. If it were up to many of us, elected officials and law enforcement would automatically receive the maximum punishment for their crimes, because its not just about the 25k.

  2. I am not going to try to convince you of the truth on this matter, let me just say that you are GROSSLY misinformed. There were no hoops, no dope, no reading, no tvs, no sustainable food, no soap, showers, toilet paper, blankets, pillows, no leaving the holding cell. There was sickness, fear, and disease. I was in that cell for a week (the maximum allowable is supposed to be 72 hours) because I didn't have a bond until I saw a judge, and FINALLY got transfered to the kitchen because I can cook. My crime? I owed money to a surgeon from when I had been injured at work. Insurance didn't cover it properly and Richard Kamiatee's (spelling?) law firm got a judgement against me that I was unaware of until the day the police knocked on my door with a warrant for my arrest.I was in jail for just under 2 weeks until I FINALLY was able to see a judge, and the warrent was revoked and my case was eventually dismissed. You don't think that can't happen to you?

    This lawsuit was well deserved, and I applaud those men and women who decided to stand up for themselves. This isn't some freakin tv movie here, all the people in that holding were innocent until proven guilty, and they were treated like animals. I pray that you never slip up and find yourself in a situation like that. This settlement isn't the end of it either, there are people facing charges for falsifying documents, misappropriation of funds,and buying tactical gear illegally with jail money - and the company overseeing the medical side, MEDStaff is being investigated by the department of justice.

  3. I don't think anyone commenting really understands what the situation was like there. I chose not to be a part of this lawsuit, but I was in this facility during this period. The conditions of the holding cells were not only deplorable, but inhumane. Being stuck in a 20x20 cell for over a week with 40 other people and no showers, no blankets, sleeping on a concrete floor in the middle of winter and being fed unacceptable food. (holding does not get regular meals - breakfast is a carton of milk, a twinkie and a carton of cereal. lunch is a jelly sandwich. dinner is a jelly sandwich and a slice of cotto salami on white) no toilet paper, people defecating on the floor, people with MRSA and other infections in the cell with you, 24 hour BRIGHT lighting and recycled air, people 2 feet away from me going through withdrawals and puking all over themselves, not a doctor in sight. If you think those are humane practices or acceptable conditions for ANYONE, I'd like to see you do it while held against your will and fearing for your safety at every moment. I was one of the lucky ones, after a week I was transferred to work in the kitchens... i knew people that were in there for a month.

  4. a brown recluse bite causes skin necrosis 37% of the time and systemic symptoms 14%. He should have been taken to a hospital. In that 14% case, the symptoms are hemolysis, thrombocytopenia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, organ damage, and even death. It was completely irresponsible for them not to get him proper medical treatment if the claims are true... and knowing what we now know about porter county jail, particularly during this time period, they are going to have a hard time explaining themselves and avoiding yet another black mark.
