  1. FYI, I lived and grew up in Gary ( Indiana) went to Aenta school, it has been closed and then sold, Moved to Tolleston area, went to Tolleston School it was closed and sold and now many parts of it was torn down and now a milion dollar Boys & Girl club, Gradurated from Horace Mann Hight school with 400 in my graduration class. The last graduration class from there had about 40 students, it has been closed from many, many years. So where are all these family going? you got it right moving east to Lake Station, Portage, Valpo, Merriville, Lake Central to get a education. I hope ev eryone do not forget the Federal Goverment has been to Gary to help fight crime, but never needed in Portage or Valpo. Our police are doing a fine job. as for drugs they are all over the place, I live in Portgae since mid seventies, and crime was not even close to was it has been in the last ten years, with new truoble makers moving in from Lake county. I visit old friends in Gary, an it's a same the condition it is in, just about everything is closed, opps I forgot, Major Hotel, Main Libery, So them crinals come to Portage to steal and rob from us.

  2. First of all for herer is something for Missouri, The Railroads own rights on both side of their tracks by many feet, The Locomotive has a Vent Recorder that tells everything the Engineer does, ex. speed, time the whissel was blown, and when the brakes were applied. for anyone walking neer railroad tracks should know, you do not win against a train of massive steel. In your 1 through 24 seneriols, you must have never work for and/or worked around trains to come up with so many rediculous ideas. I speak hard on this issue, after 37 years on the railroad you have NO idea what the train crews go through, training, random drug testing, and certification of their Operating Liesence. So don't blame the crew only the dummy for being to close to a moving train. I read all the articles of train accidecents in Gary, and I tell you there are to many for people going around the gates and ignoring the lights put there by the Railroad company and all under The Federal Railroad Administation Guidelines. So next time think before you write and bagger the Railroad Crew.

  3. I believe the Teamsters or which ever Union represented these workers just took a Big Bite of union dues they will recieve. For example 18,500 workers times $10.00 per month in union dues are a loss of $185,000.00 per month to the union...I personally agree with the other writer 10% is a whole lot better then 100% lost in wages plus benefits. that's a whole lot of many for them employees and union officers who did not do the future math. My heart goes out to all them workers especially right before the holidays. Never look at the current picture, but think of the future of them employees and their families...very dum part on negotiations. I remember growing up in Gary, Indiana and live one block down the street from Wonder bread bakery, many employees their, but they closed that plant and moved and now it is a big junk yard.

  4. BTY. Railroad workers do not fall under workmans compensatin, they are governed under FELA. " FEDERAL EMPLOYESS LIABILITY ACT" An injury is an injury on a railroad and that is why tell call it an accident. The railroad are required to have a saft work enviroment for thier employees, I know this because after 37 years on the railroad, I was a Union Office and many attorneys that know the law in protecting railroad workers....so Please do not bad mouth someone who was injured if you were not their...they have rights.
