  1. Cities and towns the size of Crown Point need to wake up and realize we are living in a new era. Very few people have time to 'volunteer' for such a technical, dangerous job that requires hundreds of hours of training, every year. Who has time for that? For the people that do have the time, are they qualified? Do they even last a year? Sure, everyone wants to be a fireman, signs up and is usually gone within the first year, because they don't have the time to 'volunteer' for trainings, meetings, and calls. Most people are already away from their home and families too much...now you want to find people to 'volunteer' more time away from that?

This plan worked a few decades ago when the days were slower and there wasn't even training. Employers allowed their employees where were volunteers firefighters to leave work to go to the occasional fire call. Does that happen now? Not a chance, and we will never be able to go back to that time.

Times have changed... shouldn't the most important public service change with it? Ever wonder why CP doesn't have volunteer cops? Is it too dangerous? Too much training? Too much of a time commitment?
