Wisniewski returns to Ultimate Fighting at UFC 145 in Montreal
After a rough go of it in his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Keith Wisniewski will hope for a better result north of the border.
Wisniewski, of Hobart, will fight UFC newcomer Chris Clements on March 24 in a welterweight fight on the preliminary card of UFC 145 in Montreal. He is in his second stint with the UFC, but is still looking for his first win on MMA's biggest stage.
Wisniewski (28-13-1, 0-2 UFC) returned to the UFC in October, nearly six years after his first fight with the promotion. After a UFC 56 loss in November 2005 to Nick Thompson, Wisniewski ran into a rough patch that saw him lose his next four fights - including three split decisions.
But after those fights for larger promotions, the co-owner of Duneland Vale Tudo in Hobart set his sights on fights closer to home - and went on a six-fight winning streak. His dominant unanimous decision win over Chris Wilson at Hoosier Fight Club 7 last April got the attention of the UFC, and Wisniewski was brought back to face Josh Neer - but suffered a large cut in the fight that the cageside doctor said was too bad for him to continue after the second round.
After some time off to heal a few nagging injuries, Wisniewski will now look to take out a UFC rookie in Clements (10-4), a Canadian fighter who will have the benefit of a bout in front of a friendly crowd in Montreal.
Clements' resume includes victories over UFC veterans Rich Clementi and Jonathan Goulet, and all 10 of his career wins are by knockout. But of Wisniewski's 13 career losses, only one has come by knockout - and that was nearly 13 years ago in just his sixth pro fight. His record includes four split decision losses.
UFC 145, which will take place at the Bell Centre, home of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, will be the promotion's first trip to the Quebec city since UFC 124 in December 2010. The Bell Centre has hosted the UFC's top three attendance marks for arena shows.
