An up-and-coming event venue is making its home in downtown Chesterton, and will able to host weddings, concerts, art exhibits, dances, performances, business forums, seminars and more.
According to Director of Communications Kelley Smith, a Grand Opening to launch Access, along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, was held the evening of June 21. The next night, June 22, Access hosted its first event, “INSPIRE at the 505 Warehouse,” and featured Michael Franzese, speaker and former mob boss for the Colombo crime family in New York. Franzese told his inspirational story about how he successfully left the mob life and spoke about his experience coaching entrepreneurs and athletes about how to avoid the gambling lifestyle.
Serianni envisions “INSPIRE at the 505 Warehouse” to continue as a series of events hosted by Prepared Services Access throughout each year, showcasing inspirational speakers and entertainment. He also intends to make all INSPIRE performances serve as fundraisers. The debut event donated a portion of the proceeds from Franzese’s appearance to the Duneland Boys & Girls Club; The H Life, supporting pediatric brain cancer research; and Reins of Life, which uses equine-assisted therapy to help improve the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities.
In 2013, Serianni relocated from Upstate New York to Chesterton, to be closer to family. Once here, he saw an opportunity to get involved in the business community. In 2017, Serianni founded Prepared Services, a unique management, consulting, and business brokerage firm.
A short time later, he joined forces with Josh Strasburg to co-found Prepared Services Contracting LLC, now called (DBA Restore & Remodel and Mold & Mitigation). Prepared Services is a family of companies devoted to serving the community with excellent service, exceptional results and extraordinary relationships. With its early roots grounded in the restoration and remodeling industry, as well as in the mold and mitigation business, Prepared Services has expanded its focus with Access - a premier event venue space and Workspaces - personalized office rental spaces.
Access resides in a space that was formerly the home of other businesses, including Pioneer Lumber, concrete block manufacturer AccuCast Industries, industrial cleaning company H2O Industries, and the Chesterton Utility. Access features a permanent stage, can seat several hundred people and includes a conference room for workshops and seminars.
Smith said Serianni shares what he has learned from his many years as an entrepreneur with fellow business owners.
“Access is a passion project. Derrick has a gift for bringing the right people together and blowing life into what they are doing to help them succeed,” she said. “Access is the perfect combination of his love for entertainment, connecting people and building relationships.”
“Our business model came from a deep desire to help people connect and meet each other’s needs,” Serianni explained.“Relationships are one of the most important things in my life. Seeing others succeed and donating to the local community motivates me immensely.”
Serianni sees the venue as a way to serve the Chesterton community.
“Our concept of helping the community, providing jobs, a place to collaborate and inspire should be proven and five years from now our plan to duplicate what we have done here in other small towns will be in motion.”
