Summer is almost here, and it’s a good time to support Northwest Indiana
charitable causes. And one way to do that is by purchasing a Northwest
Indiana Home Builders Association SHAREity Raffle ticket, the proceeds of
which benefit five local charity organizations.
Then, be sure to enjoy eleven days of fun at the 2019 Festival
Parade of Homes in the fall when the SHAREity Raffle winners
are selected.
The 2019 Festival Parade of Homes, at DoubleTree Lake Estates
in Winfield (Crown Point), begins on Oct. 10 with a VIP kickoff
event and runs through Oct. 20, when the SHAREity Raffle prize
winners will be selected. Festival hours are 4-8 p.m. weekdays and
Noon-8 p.m. weekends.
The festival will feature themed days, which include Family Day, Realtor Day,
Mom’s Day & Ladies Night, and an NWI Food Truck Tour. Enjoy food, music,
entertainment, home tours, and multiple VIP parties throughout the event.
Builders participating in the 2019 Festival Parade of Homes include Hallmark
Development, Kelly Construction, Luxor Homes, Metlov Builders and SPK
Construction. Northwest Indiana industry vendors will also be on hand to
speak with attendees about the products and services they offer, including
remodeling, roofing, windows, floors, decor and more (limited space is still
available for vendor booths).
The SHAREity Raffle was launched in January and tickets are available for
sale through Oct. 14. Tickets are $125 each, and you must be 18 years or
older to purchase them.
Participants can win up to 10 prizes valued at more than $270,000, and
proceeds benefit five influential regional charity organizations: the Boys &
Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, Habitat for Humanity of Northwest
Indiana, Housing Opportunities, St. Jude House and Opportunity Enterprises.
The SHAREity Raffle grand prize is $250,000 toward a house built by a
Festival Parade of Homes featured builder. The home is being built and will
be unveiled at the event.
The grand prize winner can also choose alternate prizes, including $200,000
toward a parade of homes builder to build a custom home, or $150,000
cash. Second place prize options include a car or $10,000 cash. Third place
winner will receive $5,000 cash, while fourth through tenth place winners
will each receive $1,000 cash.
“We are proud to host this event to support these five influential local
charities whose missions are to help others and to make our community
a better place,” said Eddie Castellanos, executive officer of the Northwest
Indiana Home Builders Association.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana serve more than
10,000 Northwest Indiana youth ages 5 to 18, with 10 clubs and
11 before and after-school sites that offer programs and services
including programming in Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics.
Children and teens learn to succeed in a safe, fun, nurturing
environment with homework help and mentoring, making lasting
friendships, and learning the importance of a strong work ethic,
teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles, good character
and citizenship.
“When the HBA invited the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana
to participate in the SHAREity Raffle, we knew what an incredible impact
it would have on the 12,000 children and teens we serve annually,” said
Buffy Adams, vice president of Mission Advancement for the Boys & Girls
Clubs. “This is a valuable vehicle to let our neighbors know the staggering
challenges facing kids in Northwest Indiana. The Home Builders Association
SHAREity Raffle and all its participants are supporting our communities’
most valuable asset: our children.”
Opportunity Enterprises provides essential services for adults with disabilities

including transportation, daily living skills, respite, group homes and
placement and support of qualified individuals in community employment.
Clients can receive personal care and assistance and medical consultations
by an agency nurse and participate in social/recreational activities.
The organization offers adults with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy,
cognitive delays, traumatic brain injuries, severe physical and mental
disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, loss of limbs and other delays
and disabilities, a supportive environment where they can learn, increase
their skills and reach their potential.
St. Jude House is a family violence prevention center and shelter that
provides comprehensive and compassionate services and support to
survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Sponsored by the
Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, St. Jude House accepts people nationwide.
Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana works to help low-income families
break the cycle of poverty, while realizing the dream of home ownership.
Home equity leads to wealth creation, helps the next generation reach
educational and wealth goals, and builds a strong community through the
additional property tax revenue.
The group builds decent, affordable, energy-efficient homes for partner
families and provides strength and stability through permanent shelter.
Beneficiaries perform 300 “sweat equity” hours working on their home and
learn how to be a homeowner through financial literacy classes that teach
the importance of an emergency fund and checking and savings accounts.
A community-sustained nonprofit, Housing Opportunities resolves and
prevents homelessness for adults, children, and seniors in Porter and
LaPorte Counties and offers clients foreclosure prevention counseling
and coaching on the road to self-sufficiency. Clients include those not
able to work due to crisis or disability, those who are underemployed at
minimum wage and struggle to support themselves and their families, and
professionals with college degrees who hit hard times.
The organization also offers several housing options including emergency
housing for those in Porter County who are homeless, supportive permanent
housing for those with disabilities who have a doctor’s diagnosis and
affordable housing for low-income clients.
“Be sure to buy a ticket and make a difference in our Northwest Indiana
community,” says Castellanos. “Your estimated chance of winning a prize is
1 in 500, so the odds are in everyone’s favor!”
